Having played the fan translation of Shadow Tower Abyss, I simply cannot see why Sony pulled the plug on it. It was a good title and there were many titles that had WORSE graphics and the like in the PS2's collection so I feel that they honestly could have given it a go. Regardless, if you ever get the chance, give Shadow Tower Abyss a try... it's not quite like King's Field or Dark Souls, but that air of despair and doom is still very much there for fans of From Software's games.

Some notes: Echo Night 2 was probably not localized because the PS2 was releasing pretty much ontop of any localization timelines. Meaning that, because it was a PSX game, that it releasing when the PS2 was released was probably why Agetec -- the American Arm of ASCII Entertainment (which, in this day and age is under the same Parent Company AS FromSoftware aka, Kadokawa Dawango) didn't opt to do it. This is the same reason why Agetec skipped on King's Field 1 JP. This released at the launch of the PSX and the PSX wouldn't launch in the United States a whole year later -- when KF 2 JP was released. Agetec just went with the newest one. Localization back then was super slow. As far as Shadow Tower: Abyss -- I've transcribed the Manual's Prologue (as back then every FromSoftware manual had the backstory) and essentially the protagonist is a Government Agent after a World War. The Agent was exploring the island's ruins and his guide -- the old man in the CGI intro, tricked him into the ruins as a Sacrafice as the Old Man, and the rest of the village around the Tower treated it as a Deity. In Japanese Art books, it's revealed that the Shadow Tower is an upside-down tree that is also a spaceship. It's leaves burn in the light of the sun and thus grows backwards.
@Gods_God5 жыл бұрын
It's a damn shame Shadow Tower: Abyss was never released in the US officially. It's by far my favorite first person RPG by FromSoftware. Luckily the fan translation is superb, and PCSX2 runs it with no issue, as far as I have seen anyway. Overall the game is by far the most satisfying of all earlier FromSoftware titles.
