Having worked in the service energy myself, I am just blown away at the amount of emotional energy this must take to put on such a show for EVERY SINGLE TABLE you serve on a long and exhausting shift. I hope they find moments where they are genuinely having fun playing the character, but man, it is hard just to constantly smile and be friendly when you are hustling long hours, for little pay, and every day you deal with at least one shitty person. The vibe of the restaurant seems positive and good, but I can't imagine the amount of energy this takes. Such a high degree of professionalism, I hope they are compensated well

I think you are mistaken unless you worked in hospitality. Its not the same. Real maids have to act like you own them so even if they dislike you they put on the act. Worked in the field and i had to cook and clean for old people. Job paid well at least.

Shiori, is so adorable. She seemed genuinely happy and excited. I went to one in Sasebo. I was in really a deep depression. Lost someone very close to me. By the time I left I was smiling again. I still have the photo, that was just over 30 years ago. I often wonder what happened to that young lady who brought me back from the brink of severe depression. I could never pay her back for that. She had the most amazing smile and her eyes were literally electrifying. I can still see her in my mind's eye. No telling where I would have been If I had not come across that young lady. I still remember her name, Kioko, I looked it up. Her name means. Who shares the happiness with the world. She performed a miracle on me. I was on my way to becoming one of the 22 a day Military / Veterans, that well, take a drastic step. I do hope she's had good life since.

Maid cafe is fun…but do recommend going with a friend or a group of friends. I saw some ppl by themselves which looked kinda sad and I would be embarrassed going by myself. Food and drinks are actually very good and reasonable pricing. It’s a fun way of experiencing Japan. I would definitely go again.

l want to share my experience as a half Japanese and Half Filipina who work in one of maid cafes in Akihabara,I'm an otaku thats why l want badly to work in maid cafe to experience what l saw in anime.Its quite fun and exciting l enjoyed working at maid cafes many foreigner especially from the europe and american to visit in akihabara to go to maid cafes and want to take pictures.At first l must be super cute,do make up and regularly take care of my skin and diet in order to meet the expectation of the boss and customers,I go under training on how to approach customers in a cute way and treat them as a valuable customer "ご主人様/お姫様"。l'm super shy at first and l forgot to stick in my character,After many weeks l get used to it and theres a montly/Weekend ranking between my senior and other new maids...Months ago like 7 l quit because l can't meet the expectation to become a worthy maid no one wants me to quit l leave l didn't even go up in my ranking l only experience ranking up until l go 3 months working but over all is all good and l currently here in Philippines plan to make business bring japan culture to Philippines.

I actually really enjoyed this video! The vibes between you two and the maids were really cute and oddly comfortable, no matter that you felt a bit awkward lol! I also want to give my own two cents (especially as a woman and an introverted person, two groups that I find most people don’t tend to envision being part of the demographic for these businesses!) as to why people might enjoy maid cafés. There’s no doubt that you can and will get sleazier customers, but I think some people’s assumption that “this is Japan’s version of Hooters” is inaccurate. To me, there’s a very specific vibe in maid cafés that frankly have no real equivalent in the Western sphere. Hooters is a distinctly sexual vibe; people go there seeking that sexually charged vibe. For me, in a maid café, that super exaggerated cutesy vibe is the appeal - because it’s _so_ cute it becomes absurd, and that absurdity becomes a point of humor! A certain atmosphere exists in a maid café that’s equal parts goofy, cheery, and welcoming. It’s total camp. It’s cringe! It’s exactly what makes them fun (or not fun, for some!) to experience. 😂🖤
