Junk Food Japan

Жыл бұрын

Hey guys! Today we're back with one of my favourite childhood dishes, meatballs! After being in Japan for over 30 years and trying some of the finest foods around, I still miss my mother's homemade meatballs. So we headed to Shirokane Yazawa Seinikuten in Roppongi, which serves some of the most delicious meat in Tokyo. From beer sausages and curry bread, to the most juicy meatball I have ever had, sit back, relax and enjoy this trip down memory lane!
Find out more about I went here:

I like how you were experiencing some enlightenment after eating something so tasty. That's what I love about Japanese cuisine. It's good to know we have Japanese markets and places to go to here in Las Vegas. I wonder sometimes if Chris Broad is pulling his hair out for not discovering some of the places you've eaten out there.

Nick: so Kloster means monastery, so it likely says "Alpirsbacher Monastery Brewers". Weizen Hefe Hell means "Wheat Yeast Light" referring to the type of light brew made from wheat and yeast. 🤓 GenieBen! (Enjoy!)

german beer, Sausage and Meatballs, that very much remind me of german Frikadellen. Why does this remind me more of Germany than Japan xD Everything looks really good! (Btw. If you are interested: The beer brand is Klosterbräu, it's a Wheat (Weizen) beer with light yeast (Hefe hell)

Yeah! Also the Knife is made by "Zwilling" (as you can see from their logo on there), a World Famous Knife Manufacturer in Solingen Germany and also one of the worlds best Manufacturers for Knifes. They seem to have a Factory in Japan too. But that is no Surprise, when you look at the traditional, Bavarian Jacket, Mr. Yazawa wears. As a German myself i would say, at least in looks, these "Weißwürschtl" and "Frikadellen" or "Fleischpflanzerl" (translated: Meatplanties) are German approved 👍 Also i wouldn't wonder if Mr. Yazawa was to Germany, to learn from a German Butcher here. But traditionally the "Weißwurst" is eaten with some special sweet Mustard. With it, they are so good. You should definitely try some with it I also have to say you do speak German pretty good. It wasn't quite enough to say that generally, but the Sentences you did say, sounded very clean and well pronounced ☺

@madhatterdo5458
@madhatterdo5458 10 ай бұрын
@@thomgizziz If you want it THAT correctly these are Frikadellen or Buletten. That's what they were called even before German immigrants brought them to America and threw them on Toast or to Japan. But yes "Meatball" would be something different but they both are made of minced Beef and as long as people understand, what you mean (cause they see it with their own eyes) it doesn't really matter, if the 100% correct Words in every Language are used. But for "Erbsenzähler" you are right 😜

So last time I was so distracted by the suit, that I didn't notice that Nicholas's beard has become massive. The junk food master already had an imposing appearance, but the beard upped it by several points. The Hamburger curry bun is going in the list of things to grab. The shop has been added to Google maps. Also, my respect goes out to the guy (cameraman?) whom we could see throughout the entire video in the window reflection. Such self restraint he shows, while Nicholas just feasts in delicious things. If it were me I would have been standing there with food in hand while slacking in regards to the camera work. Good man. Hope he got something nice after we standing there for who knows how long. Considering it is a nearly 17 minute video, various takes, at least 1 too 2 hours? Respect.

@@JunkFoodJapan I'd recommend them with the works - mustard complements it really well, it adds another dimension to the usually slightly bland taste, and it cuts through the fattiness and makes it a less cloying experience. And then grab a pretzel and your Weizen and you've got yourself a nice breakfast. Usual way to eat them is to grab them by hand, dip them in the mustard, and then suck them out of the skin, by the way.

You know Hambagu are always compared to frikadeller but to me they've always reminded me more of karbonader/krebinetter. Karbonader might be breaded but the inner texture, that very juicy somewhat loose texture is way more similar to hambagu than frikadeller. Frikadeller tend to be a bit drier and have a firmer texture. I think it is mostly just the size that makes the difference but then again what is a karbonade but a big breaded frikadelle :P All this talk of meatballs is making me crave my moms greek inspired frikadeller tho, plenty of herbs and feta cheese in the frikadeller and maybe some tzatziki on the side
