Tucked in the backstreets of Chiba, sits one of Japans remaining, old school, authentic restorers, TA Auto. Ando-san has been restoring old Nissans for decades, bringing Fairlady Z’s and Ken Mary’s back to life. Even more special is Ando-sans very own 432, that has been turned into a 432R.

that 2.2 was surprisingly responsive for a carbureted engine! I bet it sounds lovely at full song under load!! I always smile when I see one of your videos comes out, keep up the killer work Dino, you have such a unique relationship with these shops and show the best of the small lesser known to the western world along with the big name places and that’s really awesome, they deserve the attention for their incredible craftsmanship for sure!

I remember reading your article about Tadoshi Ando over on Speedhunters years ago. This guy is part of what motivated me to start working on cars. Would absolutely love to visit this shop one day, maybe even become an apprentice haha.

Definitely a rarity nowadays to see such old school restorers, had a soft spot for S30 Zettos and seeing such amazing restoration makes me appreciate S30s even more! The 432R sounds absolutely incredible, with that power to weight ratio, this is a legit fast track car! That vertical twin exhaust tip looks so cool, adds that old school charm. Love the beverage and onigiri pickups at the start, seems like a ritual before any shop tours now? Keep up with the awesome content! 👍

Yeah and after these old timers are done, that might be it for the most part. Onigiris are a must! Slightly addicted to them, best breakky/lunch there is when you're in a hurry (which I'm always in!)

Cool. I saw about Ando a few years ago. I have a 240Z to. Im into restoring classic cars to, i know how much time body metal works take, but I love to do it. Im 36.. but i know most guys my age are not into classics... I kinda rolled into it. I have the rare FS5c71a transmission to.. 2/with the drive shafts and diff ( 2 of them )ask him he knows.

Dino, being that TA Auto is an old-school analog style of shop, do you see younger people in Japan gravitating towards or away from this approach in a digital era?

I don't see many younger people much into these cars. But then again they have just been priced out of the reach of most, pretty much like anything else. I swear if Toyota didn't make the GR86, no young people in Japan would be into cars right now!
