@@Lauren_K The same can be said about any cultural monument. Is it a waste of tax payer money to maintain the National Mall - the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument etc? The Emperor (as ridiculous as this sounds) is somewhat of a cultural monument for the Japanese - similar to our WWII and Vietnam monuments. Is that a waste of tax payer money?

I'm Japanese. Emperors after the WW2 had a lot of pressure to be a good, hard-working figure so that they could gain trust from people and keep the system of imperial family supported by Japanese people. The present and the prior emperor did work hard and always tried to reach out for people who suffered from disasters and many other sufferings. (There have been many natural disasters such as big earthquakes. They always visited those places to listen to people and encourage them.) They have a big healing power for people for sure, but hopefully their dedication will be continued. Some people started to doubt the meaning of the existence of imperial family. Without their continuous dedication, it may become harder to keep the system as what it is.

@casey He dont have so much power most of power is for Prime mister abe but he is the head of state and very important to Japan

The prime minister shouted “banzai”, not to be confused with “bonsai”. Although yes, it technically translates to “ten thousand years (of life)” it isn’t used that way in practice. In reality the prime minister was simply using a common phrase used by Japanese troops to show good cheer or excitement.

@@xinyiquan666 I mean, everyone in East Asia came from China, Japan is just an island so of course some Chinese must have travel to there since the dawn of man, but at that time the land wasn't China yet. Do you know why all Japanese,Korean and Vietnamese look exactly like Chinese? BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE. Of course the culture and shit will be similar. According to your fucking logic, those Europeans must have stolen Greek culture

Japan has had an empire for centuries. The island itself is considered an empire. Basically way before WW2 they had already had an emperor
