Ummm, the issue with in-flight, hypersonic missiles being updated is the plasma that builds up around the vehicle. The excitation of air molecules produces a "jamming" of all the bands of the spectrum represented by the excited air molecules, so getting any electromagnetic update to the missile is almost impossible. If it was doable then the US and others with manned reentry vehicle would have done long ago. You could do this outside the atmosphere because there would be no cloud of photons screwing everything up. Damn quantum physics! But there are still lots of ways to use these missiles!
