I have to say when I traveled to Japan a few years ago, I was caught by surprise when I found no trash bins in the streets. We had come from a McDonald’s in Tokyo and left with our drinks. I did not know at the time that we shouldn’t have done that. Regardless I had a hard time trying to find a way of disposing of those drinks. Everyone I asked did not understand what I was asking. I’m sure I seemed really weird to them asking for garbage bins. Lesson learned. 😂

Actually, these days, more and more convenience stores do not allow garbage to be thrown away🤪

I throw it away where I shop. I believe that urban residents typically dispose of their trash, (like onigiri wrappers, empty snack bags, and bottles, ) at transit stations. Living in the countryside, where most people use cars, they probably either take their trash back home or dispose of it at convenience stores or roadside stations.

Is this all over Japan or only on big prefectures? Im thinking on buying land in a rural area so I'm gathering as much information as possible

Regardless of whether you live in a rural or urban area, it varies considerably depending on the municipality you live in, so please look up "City/town name + ごみ ".

w Large Trash Containers are being emptied every week, but where i currently live - for every apartment there is a smaller container. Those are being emptied every 2 weeks and you have to place them outside yourself. Paper will also be picked up every week. Plastic i think every 2 weeks. Once a year you can make an appointment for "large trash" like old furniture at no extra cost. But certain things like electronics and such cost extra unless you dispose them yourself.
