Joann B Have fun!! It awesome. Recommend getting a rail pass prior to going. makes traveling on the JR rails so easy and more affordable.
@MrEmichan8 жыл бұрын
totally agree with getting a JR rail pass. I never go to Japan without it.
@alessiman8 жыл бұрын
Mikey, If you are going to be doing a lot of travel around Japan its worth picking up a Japan Rail Pass (Various days in duration) but the 7 day is really popular That will let you reserve seats on the Shinkansen but more importantly, allow unlimited travel in those 7 days. This includes the NEX (Narita Express) If i base myself in Osaka, I was making daytrips to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kobe, Hemeji Castle and then of course to Tokyo and home. Extremely good value
@revinaque13428 жыл бұрын
Henry Louey The problem with the JR pass is that it's only valid on JR lines. So if the nearest transfer or exit is a private line (and there are many of those in Japan), you still have to pay to ride that. Or else you go out of your way to only ride the JR lines. It depends on how you travel, but when we tried the JR pass, we ended up spending more. We only ever stay at in the Kansai area, though, so maybe it does make sense if you're traveling all over Japan.
@alessiman8 жыл бұрын
I said if you are traveling a lot. And you will always pair the JR pass with a local card. In the Kansai region an IC Card or in Tokyo the Suica are the preferred but both are are interchangeable. Also in Tokyo you can get 1,2 or 3 day Tokyo Metro Cards for cheap. A 72 hour card is 1500 Yen. A Bargain!
@audrey.c18 жыл бұрын
Hi There! I'm heading to japan in march and I was deciding if getting a JR pass would be worth it! Hoping you can help me out here. I'll be taking the romance car to hakone then a JR line to Osaka and kyoto and then back to tokyo. Idk if it's worth getting a JR pass my whole trip or for that portion of travel. Also thinking about getting the green pass cause i'm worried I wont have enough space for our luggage. (2 large luggage, 2 medium luggage, and a carry on). TIA
@revinaque13428 жыл бұрын
Audrey Lim-Hing Hi Audrey! I definitely wouldn't recommend the JR pass for the Kyoto and Osaka leg of your trip. There are a lot of private lines that are more convenient, particularly if you're using Google Maps to navigate, or if you're being guided by a local. If you plan on visiting the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, you can get an Osaka Kaiyu Ticket that offers free rides on a certain line (not sure if it's JR, I can't remember), plus discounts at some other tourist sites and restaurants in Osaka for just a few hundred yen more than the aquarium access alone. You might also want to look into the Osaka Amazing Pass, which is worth it if you plan to visit a lot of the tourist attractions included. I didn't get one, though. I'm too lazy to make it to all of the sites in one or two days. Lol. I only availed of the Kaiyu Ticket, and it was definitely worth it.
@bitneek8 жыл бұрын
Ya, PASMO and Suica IC cards are totally interchangeable now in Tokyo and other major Japanese cities. They are not valid for paying for Shinkansen, just metro and local commuter lines both private and JR. I would highly recommend getting a Suica or PASMO card if travelling within Tokyo or other cities. The other great thing about PASMO/Suica cards is that you can use them as a form of payment in vending machines and convenience stores as well as many other vendors (especially in train stations)

Machine translation. "Chicken bento" you ate in the Shinkansen was launched in October 1964. It is a favorite of Emperor Akihito. During the 53 years, the chefs improved to make it more delicious, but there was a request from customers that they wanted "Do not change the taste." For that reason, it improved only several times during the 53 years. .

Japanese have a huge tolerance for queueing ! So if there is something a bit novel or new they will often queue for ages. Once I saw a huge queue outside dunkin donuts because they had a special flavor of donut or something. Best thing is to stick to all the stuff in Japan that is normal for Japanese, but is still awesome for tourists. Avoid anything like special expos or special seasonal events (IMO), which would appeal to regular Japanese as there is sure to be a long queue.

despite loving your channel from the beginning for giving a great introduction to Chinese food one of the frustrating things before this Asia trip was how Korean and Japanese food was criticized/misunderstood. It's good to see you've gained additional perspective to Japanese and Korean food. Should've definitely tried shabu shabu in Japan. I was cringing on your first video about it in the US along with the comments on that video about how Korean and Japanese food were over rated by the Chinese viewers who lacked perspective. It's basically the same as to how most Americans feel Chinese food is overrated (it clearly isn't). wagyu is what makes shabu shabu, sukiyaki, and yakiniku what it is. I'd argue it's better than having it as steak cause it's overly marbled for that. It's almost always best when prepared with something. I'm also glad we were able to give you the heads up about how people in Japan don't appreciate being disturbed. I'm glad you were able to film this while being as respectful to others as you can. there's a reason why in Japan, Americans and mainland Chinese people get a bad reputation. great video and am enjoying these videos that portray how proper perspective is everything when dealing with different cultures. Thank you!

OMG! I've been riding the first class (green car) shinkansen for the past 7 years and I never opened that arm rest table lol I will definitely do on my next trip! Actually to me riding in the first class car is a huge difference, I am a plus size woman and it is sometime difficult to fit into the regular seats, plus it is always very/extremely crowded in the economy seats and it is hard to find a two seat or three seats without someone sitting next to you.. I do believe the first class is nice plus if you are getting the JR PASS to use on your trip then why not! :) Oh that beef bento!
@mayabewsher69876 жыл бұрын
I enjoy the Green car too. I am also a larger lady and find the extra room helpful. The quiet is nice too. It seems to be salarymen focusing on their work mostly. I travel from Tokyo to visit my family in Okayama, so it is worth it for that distance. If I want to save some money I might just take Green car one way and then standard seats on the return journey.

They are very punctual on train time. Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan for a millennial. If you had time, Himeji Castle would be a must see. They actually filmed a James Bond movie way back in 1967. It was restored a few years ago, so that white outer of the castle is so amazingly white and clean. Used to have sort of a gray tinge probably due to the air, so they cleaned that up. Truly a site to see. I just love the history of Japan. Thanks for the vlog. Keep 'em coming.

how much roughly was a roundtrip ticket from tokyo to kobe?
@bitneek8 жыл бұрын
On a Nozomi super express it is exactly ¥15,100 (around $140 US) for one way in regular class seating, so ¥30,200 for a round trip. It's slightly cheaper if you take Hikari super express (same trains, they just stop more frequently and run a bit less often: about every 20 minutes for Hikari compared to about every 7 minutes for Nozomi). If you are just visiting Japan it is usually more economical to get a Japan Rail Pass (¥29,110 for 7 days) but you are limited to Hikari and Kodama service. With a Japan rail pass you can take any JR operated train within the time period for which it is valid. *Note: if you use a JR Pass you need to purchase it before arriving in Japan.

His info could use some clarification. The economy section comfortness depends on which Shinkasen you ride. The Sakura line has a much nicer economy than the Hikuri line which he was showing. He also mentions people standing. That only occurs in the non-reserved section of the train. Just reserve your seat in advance and you never have to worry about that.

"In Japan that's a no no." I ride local trains and Shinkansens regularly for work. People (Japanese) talk loud all the time. The worst is schools kids, packs of Salary men and old ladies. Maybe the Japanese should start reflecting what they expect of everyone else.

Mikey, I really enjoyed your vid, after being to Japan many times,I agree with you about everything, its amazing, expensive, confusing, everyone constantly smiling and bowing, I also agree with you about the Shin Kansen, first class is not worth it, as its so expensive, and economy class is also really good. hope you enjoyed your time there as much as I did.
