Lol I love how Mike went through the trouble of unlocking the door, going inside (with his luggage still outside), putting the camera down (leaving it on), turning the light *back off*, and closing the door, JUST so he could stumble through the door with his luggage, flip the light back on, and say "home sweet home"..... He's such a dork😂

People (especially people from the USA) over analyze maid cafes so much. Think of them this way. They're just like all the breastaurants here in the USA (Hooters, Tilted Kilt, Twin Peaks, etc.), except with a different theme. Instead of being overtly sexualized, they go for a cute aesthetic. Instead of slinking around in short skirts or tight shorts and showing off cleavage while flirting with the male clientele, the maids act in a caricature of how cartoon maids behave. In any case, it's the exact same concept: cute girls selling overpriced food to guys who secretly fantasize that the waitresses are actually interested in them. That's really all there is to it. It's Hooters with different uniforms.

Veggie Gamer Go to Kyoto! There are restaurants there that specialize solely on vegetarian cuisine, and they're actually really good. You'll usually find restaurants like that around the temples in Kyoto, because they're based around Buddhist diet principles.
@zipp4everyone2638 жыл бұрын
I understand that! Japan is known in the west as a fish and meat heaven however they do have a rich history of being almost vegan (there was an emperor some hundred years ago that forbade the consumption of meat, a strict buddist teaching) and because of it and the fact that they LOVE traditions, they have a wide selection of great vegetarian (at least) foods that are just as Japanese as every other dish :) Soba, for one, is entirely vegetarian. Cant say if it contains egg or not thou. However, they do make really good salads atleast. (Im not a vegan so i cant speak from experience since i dont really care about whats in my food (to that extent) ).

Asnita Novi Not trying to be a jackass here. Don't hate on me. Just saying. Japan: A great place for tourists. A very bad place for an immigrant! They aren't as sincere as they first feel like. If you can't speak Japanese, they won't talk to you. They would laugh at your back.Being an Indian, or brown, it's a hell. They have this superiority complex. They cannot stand anyone darker than Europeans. They aren't straight forward. They fake their smile and friendliness. BUT, whatever,I love JAPAN! Loved my stay there! Hey Mikey, my wife and I want to thank you for these videos. We were in Japan at the EXACT time you were there (except for 18 days - hey, it was a honeymoon) and had the same feelings you had at the end. Was really sad to leave and also felt that we could live there. If only we could speak Japanese! As a side note going around Japan with a pescatarian in tow was an experience. Certainly in Honshu fish wasn't quite as abundant as we'd hoped and vegeterian stuff/vegan, while about, was thin on the ground. Luckily Lawson/7-11 saved us a few times! Thanks TONS for sharing the journey. And my wife agrees with you on Kyoto. ;)

I think if you get a chance to move here or come more often, you'll notice that many times the kindness is not as sincere as it is in many of the neighboring countries, where people are usually more straightforward. That said, I've enjoyed living in Japan more than I have anywhere else.
@coffeesticks_038 жыл бұрын
I've heard lots of people say that Japanese kindness is fake, but I mean for someone like him who was only visiting for a little while it's not such a bad thing. He'll probably never see them again anyway.
@condew61038 жыл бұрын
The kindness is real. I tried to get on a bus in Kyoto, it was the wrong bus for my pass and I was turned away. A Japanese couple saw this and insisted on personally taking me to the right bus stop, and making sure I got on the bus. Nobody would expend that kind of time and energy if they weren't sincere.
@alienrs56558 жыл бұрын
supernova good point ! the infamous thai hospitality also isnt as genuine as most first time tourists make it out to be. I dont want to be the debby downer but I totally get the point youre making about Japan, it is no doubt a unique culture and an experience to be had. But as a tourist especially in countries like Japan, Thailand where social abnormalities are hidden behind the false kind facade unless youre observent and informed you would only be seeing whats on the surface which maybe better off as a tourist you dont want to delve to deep cause you might be dissapointed. I prefer open minded whatever kind of mentality culture where what you see is what you get. Then again thats personal

Regarding service industry, its mandatory to act sincere and polite to customers, or else they will get complaints
@natashaharper87708 жыл бұрын
It is as sincere as it is in any service industry. I appreciate the level and quality of Japanese service. Where you tend to see the lack of sincerity is in real life people just refuse to show any negative or honest feeling towards you. honne vs tatemae.
