I applied back in September 2018 to serve as an Olympic Volunteer for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the duties as an Olympic volunteer that I was going to do was helping out with the news media, opening/closing ceremonies, certain events, and Guest Services. I was unfortunately rejected in fall 2019 since the International Olympic committee has received more than 200,000 applications over 80,000 positions. More than 205,000 applications have been reviewed and 63% are Japanese natives while 37% are non Japanese applicants who live outside of Japan. I’ll visit Japan as a tourist around 2024 (if everything clears up) and as for the Olympics; I’ll probably have a better chance to serve as an Olympic volunteer the moment the Olympic Games are hosted in US soil for the 2028 LA Summer Olympic Games since I live 4-5 hours away from Los Angeles 🇺🇸😇🙏🏻❤️✝️

I might sign up for the LA 2028 too, but I live in Texas. Do they ever give you a reason why you weren't pick to be a volunteer? While I have loads of volunteer experience (including at large events), I never applied for a huge sporting event like the Olympics, but I love volunteering and the Olympics and love meeting different people of different backgrounds. I got a taste of that at my university since it's internationally recognized and 30% of the student population were from overseas, and I got to study abroad too in Turkey for several weeks. Of course I have concerns when it comes to affordability, which is why I want to research as much as possible. Anyway, I hope you make it to Japan and LA Olympics.

I also applied to be a volounteer for the 2020 Tokyo games (I both have IELTSs and TOFL certification and can speak/read french aside from my mother tongue which is Filipino) and did get an email that I was selected but since I live overseas and got pregnant I had to fully withdraw my application🥲 Seeing your video made me sad that I was not able to push through with it. It could’ve been an experience that I would never forget. Good on you for volounteering too, as this isn’t a paid job and does take time and your efforts.

I was also an Olympic volunteer, to answer your questio about seeing a game, it really depends on your role, some volunteers see games up close, some volunteers never see a game or athelete at all. There are thousands of volunteers who work behind the scenes at airports, hotels, offices that are not venues, they do not see the games in person, but they all provide a role that is just as important, I salute those volunteers. Volunteers have to provide their own accomodation, most live in Tokyo or the area so most people like myself travel from home. In past Olympics with international volutneers, people stayed in hotels, guest houses etc like a regular traveler.

I believe everything (flight and accomodation) is at your own expenses « As described in the Volunteer Terms and Conditions, volunteers are responsible for finding and paying for their own accommodation. » except for public transportations « Travel expenses from your place of residence or accommodation to the venue (1,000 yen/day) »
@tokyochannel20203 жыл бұрын
Foreign volunteers living outside of Japan were prohibited due to covid concerns. However a limited number of specialist volunteers were allowed in Japan, mostly from what I heard equestrian volunteers working with horses. There were many international/foreign volunteers who lived in Japan that volunteered as well. All volunteers are responsbility for their own accomodations, this is generally for most Olympics, with some exceptions.
