Japan-US Relations History and Today

Prof. Kaoru Iokibe from University of Tokyo provides a quick but comprehensive historical overview of the US-Japan Relationship. Prof. Iokibe starts from its beginning in the 19th century / Meiji period when the US Commodore Perry arrived in Japan leading Japan to open its doors to the West after its long closure. His lecture covers Japan’s modernization, 19th century global politics, the path to WWII and the Post-War US-Japan relationship.
