I am a Japanese volleyball fan but the highlights here don't do justice. China absolutely dominated Japan in that match. Japan had some fight but China was far better in both defensively and offensively.

@HenryDavidT I've said pretty much the same thing about the Japanese players - and so have several other observers. In terms of height the Japanese team share similarities with the Chinese team for the 2004 Athens Olympics. After the injury of their tallest spiker Zhao Ruirui, China was left with a team who were mostly around 6 feet, the tallest being about 6ft 2 inches. And this team had to play a Russian team that had very tall players like Gamova (taller than even Yuan Xin-Yueh) and Shokolova who was about Chang C. Ning's height. Many other Russian players were well above 6 ft. Further, the Russians had also defeated the great Brazilian team in a fantastic upset. The short Chinese team, however, were very strong, though much shorter. And very well trained and talented, with the likes of Zhou Suhong, Chang Ping, and the player generally regarded as the best setter of all time - Feng Kun. And they were highly motivated: after losing two sets they fought back to win the next two and the fifth set as well. To me, it was the greatest Olympic volleyball final ever, and a testimony to the power of will, of human tenacity. We can't expect miracles to happen twice, I guess.

This highlight failed to show the most amazing plays in the game. In second set, starting at 7-16, Zhang Changning started to serve until 7-23, and she got 5 Aces. She was definitely the MVP of this match.

客觀來説，中國隊的每個環節都進步好多~~ 1.最明顯的就是攻防轉換的速度。球員的防守意識非常主動，都會提前補位墊球。二傳的傳球速度也加快不少，一旦形成多點進攻，就會對對方的防守造成很大困難。 2.倆副攻真的做到了攻攔俱佳。之前袁主要打背飛，顏主要打短平。但現在倆副攻背飛、遠近網短平、背錯、背快都能打。快攻戰術球的多變起到了牽制對方攔網的作用，也減輕了邊攻手進攻的壓力。當然一如既往強勢的定點攔網，和移動攔網都進步不少，即使不能攔死，有效撐起也為防守反擊創造了更好的機會。 3.中國隊兩翼的進攻終于不再靠朱婷了。張的進攻綫路更豐富了，不再祇會扣斜綫，現在借手、直綫、吊球都有，而且她的防守救球應該是中國隊邊攻手中最好的。李盈盈在減重後感覺彈跳更高了，扣球的力度也更強，小斜綫角度也更刁鑽。最重要的是中國隊這三位的邊攔網應該是世界最強的組合。一旦其他邊攻手的狀態都調動起來，朱婷的負擔就更小，在形成調整攻時打多精彩的困難球。 4.最重要的是一傳的進步真的非常明顯。一傳到位率的大步提升形成了多點進攻的情形。感覺現在中國隊除了身高優勢，已經有點隱約融入了日泰隊的打法。一旦一傳到位，二傳給的球很快、點更低、左右前後都形成進攻點，有點像立體化進攻的情形。 5.當然目前最需要改進的還是在右翼的進攻效率，現在右翼主要還是靠副攻的牽制。龔的防守、攔網、發球都已經達到了極致的水平，但進攻還是差了點。郎平現在正訓練隊内所有邊攻手都要具有打主攻和接應的能力。一旦朱、張或李在接應位置能完全適應。這三人同時在場上就可能會是世界最強的邊攻組合~

Congratulations to China Team ending their play in Yokohama with such great results of 5 consecutive wins and not losing a single set! Great play from China yesterday where Ding Xia really made an even distribution of her sets such that five players scored 10 points and above! It is very hard for team Japan to score, they have to keep defense and get blocked for multiple times to just score one point. They do not seem to have a systemic way to play against strong teams nowadays. Another thing is the performance on reception is very poor today, Japan used to be one of the best teams on reception, I don't know what happened to them.

Japan's hitters need to find more range/be more adaptable. I didnt see the full match but just in these highlights the outside hitter tipped right over the block where China's off blocker was just standing there waiting for the tip. Over and over she did that. Tip somewhere else, roll somewhere else, hit the edges of the block. They have to do better to compensate for the height disadvantage. Still they're fun to watch.

The game was a total mental collapse for japan. The setting variation was lacking since they started to collapse. The game started strong for japan but the service game of china of targeting the left wing spikers really worked in their favor. Blocking will always be the best way to contain the japanese players to get their momentum and china showed dominance in that department. Japan really needs a setter who can connect with their middle players. They cannot make a good play in the middle though they tried. Sato is a good setter but the receiving was not sustained because they lost confidence. Japan needs to work on their serves as well and learn from china. They probably need to get back the assistant coach from Turkey (not sure about his nationality) but they had better results when he was still part of nakada's coaching staff.

Chinese team is dominating the air and playing great. Japanese team is very entertaining to watch as it’s members are very resilient and persistent. There are many times the ball looks impossible to save but they did. I’m a Chinese but there are many things we could learn from Japan such as their professionalism and undying spirit.

Yes. Many have noted that the Japanese team are physically unsuited for modern volleyball. It's also a fiction to claim they're great at defense. Defense means not only the ability to receive, but also to block so that the other side cannot or find it difficult to score. Look at Japan's scores: they'd only 10 points from China in the second set which is frankly quite shameful if winning is their intention. Saying Japan is great at defense a million times does not make it a reality. However, as I'd assumed often, Japan is into volleyball mostly because it loves the game. That we can accept, and even praise.

I really love the Chinese offense very penetrating. but I also love how the Japanese play their floor defense, swift and amazing. People on the comments say the highlights' bit unfair, well maybe the highlights shown was the best rallies and plays so far during the match. Everybody know it would take a HUGE effort for Japan to win against China and duh it's been 7 years since Japan had beaten China's Team A. So don't expect. Even if I'm a Japanese Women's volleyball fan, I know this girls will be diminished by the strength of the Chinese. Love to both teams ❤
