Very true. Had Japan have three with the height of Egonu ( Italy ) , Kim ( SKorea) and Karakurt ( Turkey), Japan could be the top contender for Olympic gold finish.

@@gregorybautista9514 and blocking too, 5' 10" or 5' 11" middle blocker will not work in a tournament like this. Iwasaka and Araki is more need for they are both 6' 2"

Yeah it was a good game for haruka as a double sub. Great finish for them. I'm not expecting them to finish at 5th place and it is decent enough based on their over all performance this world cup. Her digs and saves were incredible. My player of the game for this match will be shinnabe. So steady from start to finish but miya sato's setting was superb as well everybody getting a chance to attack.

@@-ok1641 yeah her digging is mostly on point and her spikes are not the strongest but properly placed. Her cross court shots in the right side are always effective avoiding the blockers and Netherlands cant stop her.

@@pleiades3310 I think no one can replace Saori Kimura and Saori Sakoda because they are special athletes. No one can replicate what they have achieved and contributed for Japan Volleyball team. Mayu can or WILL create a name of her own in the future. Mayu and Ai Kurogo are bringing bright future to Japan.

The whole game was about the greatness of japanese defense. They converted most of their digs to points making everything hard for the dutch to score consecutively. It was a wise decision for nakada to replace nabeya with ishikawa since nabeya was having a problem getting a score with so many attempts.

Team Japan improved a lot during the tournament, I wish they go after some talented tall kids and train them for the future, then nobody can stop them!

I do agree on this. The defense is so strong but they are lacking on height and power on their spike. Otherwise they will be tough one to beat

However, their defense is good partly because everybody is short. If they do get tall kids, you can't expect them to have same level of defense...

@@carenguo3415 Why not? Their excellent defense is not just because they're short, but it's because of the specialized training process and methods, and also their own competency. Just look at Saori Kimura, she could dig more greatly than many liberos and she is 1.85m height! She is not so tall compared to other players, but still taller than any present Japanese players.

Japan scored a morale-boosting 3-1 win (25-18, 27-25, 24-26, 25-21) over the Netherlands to the delight of fans and improved its placing from seventh before the match to fifth. Yuki Ishii scored 26 points and Risa Shinabe 19. Lonneke Sloetjes scored 18 for the Netherlands. Mayu Ishikawa came on as a substitute in the fourth set and made an important contribution by scoring several points, including the match winner. Japan achieved its aim under Kumi Nakada of finishing among the top six in international tournaments in this World Cup.

Indeed JVA's motto is legit as it is, "We will never drop the ball" and miyashita my diving and defense queen, I can see setting improvement on her since after rio 2016 but I'm still not losing hope for Saori Kimura / Saori Sakoda / Yukiko Ebata's comeback... :((

Everyone is raving about Ishikawa but no one is appreciating Ishii. My god, I feel tired for her in almost all matches. Sato constantly give her the third touch. And she delivers. Same with VNL. She carried the team in scoring. Shinnabe too.

Both teams are splendid, Japan with the classic and excellent digs and floor defense are top notch, Netherlands with phenomenal spikes and comparable floor defense. It's quite difficult to root since both teams are really great.

The Dutch team should introduce more down-the-middle quick attacks to their game. They have the height and muscles but the attacks are too predictable, so Japan kept getting a touch of the ball through blocks even though they are so much shorter.

Again why koga didnt play? Im pretty sure she is the regular spiker but they maybe put her in like the hardest games? Im a little confused if someone knows something please

She is strongest hitter but that is it really, she is not as clever as the other spikers and more easy to read since she depends on cross court and does not get as much points as she should be getting. Receive and defense she is one of the weakest. In an interview Nakada said Koga had hit a wall but she knows this and fights hard to overcome that wall. She is still young so she can improve alot.

I really like watching volleyball! It is really amazing and shocking when the opponent spikes the ball or hit the ball really strong in the opponent's court and they properly receives the ball like nothing was happen. I really like it. Just watching volleyball not playing because I do not want to be hitted by powerful hitters.
