Imo a better alternative to aftermarket gauges is to just get a $10 Bluetooth obd2 dongle and a good phone mount. I use the Torque pro app to show my water temp, exhaust temp and battery voltage. The battery voltage let's me know how healthy the alternator is. I've had one die on track before. And I'm about to install my Arduino project that allows me to inject custom sensors into the canbus network. So I'll have oil temp, 2nd water temp and manual fan control all via Bluetooth on my phone. I couldn't justify the price of normal gauges.

Keep it up man, this now my favorite rotary and rx8 channel! I don't even have an rx8. I have a jeep, and since i also want an rx8 with it's rotary you incourage me to buy one, one day. And to know how to maintain and love it💙 even though it can be a pain in the ass motor as many people review rotories with their problems. But i'm liking it , because i see how you love and how you put dedication for your rx8's and that makes me want to get one too.🤙

I feel you with that power steering problem. I have never had a fully functioning power steering for years on my RX8. I've tried everything you've mentioned, including cutting out a connector and just soldering them together. I also replaced the clock spring in the steering wheel with no success recommended by the dealer. It has a "deadspot" in the steering and it looses track of where the center of the wheel is. Since mine partially works though, it definitely isn't the power steering ECU, so it's probably the steering rack itself. Also I have ABS issues that has been impossible to diagnose as well that also affect how to power steering feels and just throws out lights on my dashboard. Once I have enough money though, I should be able to get everything sorted out.

Btw for the power steering, even if you checked continuity it is possible that the connectors read fine while sitting but fail when driving due to vibrations. Any hiccups messes with the power steering system in this car and you lose power steering entirely. Usually it is unnecessary connectors on top of the radiator fan shroud. Easiest fix is to simply remove the connector and crimp the connections.

I would do a starter upgrade, coils and leads upgrade and a higher flow water pump upgrade. Modify wheel arch ventilation, bonnet vents to allow more air flow around the engine to keep engine cooler along with a stage 1 ecu remap which allows the thermostat to open earlier which all in turn helps reduce engine overheating problems. Along with the other few mods mentioned will make the engine run smoother with upgrade ignition and upgraded starter reduces chances of flooding and battery strain. All well documented online. These would be the very minimum I’d do to help reduce wear and strain on the apex seals.?

I have a Borla on my RX-8, I cannot stand obnoxious exhausts that drone like mad, and the RX8 is one of the worst cars for that with cheap/loud exhausts. The Borla with a gutted stock midpipe is honestly perfect. It is very rare the drone starts to bother me and it's usually on 3-4 hour drives back from Road America when I'm already exhausted from the heat and noise I endured throughout the day, I strongly recommend it. Otherwise the only thing that stands between stock and the borla for road manners is the Racing Beat Catback

PS if your planning to do a new head unit. Plan to replace your amp and door speakers (you will need a custom bracket). You can't just replace one piece at a time, like I thought. Its the whole darn thing at once, and that is really really annoying. Home run BOTH + and - Lines straight from the amp to the battery. Nothing in between. Never run your power lines and speaker lines on the same side of the car PS: Make sure to get a head unit like ATATO or better than allows for steering wheel adopter in the future. Good luck!!

I wish I had the resources to do what you do with rotaries. I just have 1 Rx8. But rotaries are pretty much the same as Porsche engines(German short stroke engines). They need really good fuel pumps and higher capacity psi and cc’s injectors, so they don’t lose power. Have you tried Porsche 911 injectors and high propelling fuel pump like a Silverado or Tundra fuel pump to get off the line. I’ve heard it works really well. Have not tried it myself since I don’t have the funds to do so at this time.
@57rotary3 жыл бұрын
May also need a Porsche secondary Porsche 911 fuel pump for top end. Germans know short strokes to a degree. It’s just a matter of knowing what worksthe rotary getting the right parts and it’ll be a Beast.
