Mazda RX8 Turbo Pit Lane start behind 24 cars to second place! Donington Track Attack

Just as the race was about to start lining up, the rain came down so a tyre change left the Mazda RX8 starting from the pit lane joining only once all the cars had gone by!.
Immediately I knew this was the correct choice and had an amazing amount of grip to be able to climb through the field, had one lucky escape when a car spun as I got to it out of Mcleans and so on to the last lap and with the leader Dave Baldwin within reach, coming up to Coppice, as the in car will show, I was being cautious as I didn’t want to get up under him and maybe have the back step out and collect him.
To have come that far though the field, there was no way I was willing settle for second
I had been braking very gently into the esses all the race but this time, literally the instant I went near the pedal the car violently swopped ends with no hope of control.
Once out the car, the four marshals quickly confirmed that yes there was oil down where I spun.
I have since wondered, should I have just tucked in behind him and settled for second ?, but after coming through the entire field then settling for second, it would have felt the same as sitting in the gravel trap anyway !!!!

@@calebmatthews4365 I own a 600hp AMG, and its too fast for the street, so i bought a RX8. The rx8 is so perfect the way it is. Anymore power and you can never enjoy it on the street.

There is the smooth operator in a great car! Great drive in a great vehicle! RX8 is a tremendously good-handling car even at stock form. And it was surely oil on wet tarmac that would spin you so violently when you got on brakes.

If I'm not wrong based on watching many videos about mazda's win at lemans, 787b actually wasn't the fastest, it was THE most reliable car on the track. They lowered it's power to make it reliable.

I have been persisting with my Renesis since I bought my RX8 GT new 11 years ago.. I have made more than double stock power but have had many failures .... Every time I have addressed a problem there is another one.... $210,000 (usd) dollars later I have another failed Renesis turboed engine...I have been trying to learn to tune it myself...On E85 (with the extra knock margin) it has run fine, but when I run it on 98 it always detonates. . . .

Unfortunately the Renesis engine does not turbo very well.

I’ve read you can’t go over 7 psi boost to maintain reliability

@@lengerer ... Oh ok,, I have run 22psi on E85 but It didn't last too long when I took it to the track and went flat out all day. I have rebuilt it again. I tracked it again a week ago and change the waste gate to a tiny chinese one but it would barley hold 4-5psi on 98 fuel. Even so I was almost keeping up with Ferraris anyway plus it never detonated. I have changed it back to a proper waste gate and now it is runs perfect. I'm taking it back to the track in a week and will run 7psi, I have retuned it and it still doesn't knock at 7psi:) on 98. I will upload a video of how it does.

@@r1yamahamini good luck! We have a very healthy rotary scene here in Australia with many experienced and highly regarded mechanics. Even so, it's rare to see a turbo rx8.

Turblown engineering have made an hybrid Renesis/REW that's outputing 600+ WHP, you might want to look into that

Everything went so well until 17:00 ... shame... But what a good chance! This race proved that you can get more speed or HP by removing one windscreen wiper XD Really wanna know what set up it is on his car. Did he use some FD's bit or it's a complete swap? It doesn't sound like a normal Renesis, port wise.

It started raining just minutes before the race started. I knew I wouldn't get anywhere on slicks so decided to change tyres to wets but knew I wouldn't make the start in time so had to start from the pit lane. Went from last to second and challenged for the lead on the final corner only to spin on oil left offline by a car in the race before.
