It simply a disrepsected act to be honest. I wouldn't want to see some rednect shooting a rifle that made inside of my country or would you? I loved how you demonstrated the point on how tough that rifle was in this video, I just wished it was not a complete destructive test on a rare and iconic vintage gun. I always wanted one of these for myself and could not even till this day get my hands on one, so this video made me quite sad for that reason. Still it was worth the sacrifice because the Arisaka was a great choice of both demonstrating the hazard of overcharged rounds, the difference of the powder compositions, and what could or potentially happen if you tempt fate if one was to try knowingly or mistakenly. Nice demonstration and tribute to the great quality and reliability of a historic firearm. I am a new subscriber from this demonstration. Cheers from Canada!!!......

I had uncle who fought in WW2 pacific who related this story to me concerning the collectability of Japanese Arisaka among USA soldiers(who tended to be collectors). He was coming back on troop ship after war; there was a card game going on and a soldier who needed more money for game. He offered his war booty Arisaka for a few dollars and only got laughed at. He then offered the rifle and greatly discounted rate and still no takers; it was at this point that owner of said rifle walked to side of troop carrier and tossed rifle over board in disgust. With all that said the Arisaka was tested by USA ordinance along with every other bolt type rifle and it was found to be the strongest action by far and the tests failed to destroy Arisaka; the same test destroyed every other service bolt rifle they tested.

All these people butt-hurt about a $100-$300 rifle. It's not rare just because not everyone you know has one.
@Dies1r4e8 жыл бұрын
+skylar15123 one in decent condition is actually rather rare first off, secondly it's more a matter of respect for the firearm. Your grandfather as an old person isn't very rare, doesn't mean I do an extreme test of how far he can run, and when he passes shoot him at the end of it just for kicks.
@Deutscher9248 жыл бұрын
+Dies1r4e I'd say it failed the obstructed barrel test, not many rifles would pass it, that rifle will never be as accurate as it was, you'd never be able to sell it, and I'd wager it probably isn't as safe as it was when they got their hands on it. at the point that the barrel bulges it just makes a nice wall piece, now it's a nice wallpiece with some bullet holes in it.
@Dies1r4e8 жыл бұрын
Deutscher924 A barrel bulge just means a replaced barrel, with less then 100 dollars of TLC you could have restored that gun...the fact that did the test in first place is baffling. Just use a bit of math and a basic knowledge of metallurgy and you can come to the same conclusions without destroying a perfectly good rifle. Once again I use the example of a grandfather. Not rare, everyone has one, but you wouldn't like it if someone beat yours with a bat just to see when his bones broke would you?

Testing performed by P.O. Ackley after the war showed the Arisaka to be one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, actions of the major battle rifles of WW2. My problem is the chambering and the stretched cases I was getting,that I was afraid to reload. I had my 6.5x50 Type 38 chamber casted, and it was so far out of SAAMI spec, that I decided to re-chamber it for a longer rifle cartridge. After doing some research on relative CUP pressures of the various 6.5 rifle calibers, I decided to go with 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser ( some people asked me why I didn't try 6.5x52 Carcano instead, and the answer is that my chamber was just barely out of spec for that case length as well! ). I purchased a finishing reamer for the 6.5 Swede and a GO Gauge, and had my local gunsmith do the conversion for me. The result was a complete success, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The barrel and rifling were in excellent shape, Swedish Mauser ammo and brass are both relatively plentiful and a LOT less expensive and hard to find compared to 6.5x50 Japanese, the re-loading dies are also less expensive and easier to find, and NOW the spent cases are not all bulged-to-hell, and are actually re-loadable. Heck, the Swedish Mauser ammo fires practically the same grain weight bullet. Now I have a rifle I like to shoot, and not a safe-queen. I get pretty good accuracy from Prvi Partzan 139 Grain ammo right out of the box, and I am SURE I can eventually work up a perfect powder load to make it even more accurate.
@StanislavPereuznyk10 жыл бұрын
impressive
@m551tanker10 жыл бұрын
FYI ...The Japanese Imperial Army found that having over sized chambers in their automatic weapons helped with extraction of the casing, and since they were not interested in re-loading they did that to all their weapons! One trick you can do, take 1/4" wide masking tape and put one wrap around the base of the case ...alittle ahead of the extractor groove. This will help center the case in the over size chamber and when the cartridge is fired, expansion is spread all around as apposed to going to one side (which what normally happens) ...This will let you re-load the case afew extra times ...my experience. Good Luck!

P.O. Ackley, in his two volume set titled handbook for shooters and reloaders, writes about him deliberately blowing up military rifles. When he got to the arisaka it blew the barrel out of the receiver. But the threads in the receiver were still intact and all that was needed was to screw another barrel into the receiver. That is one tough rifle.

You have to remove the bullet then stuff paper into the case real hard so it holds back that powder in a way that it burns way faster under compression which causes high pressure but with no compression it burns real slow like what you had Someone just forgot you had to stuff that paper in and it will work to clear a barrel and even better with paper glued in Pour some powder out on a table and light it off to watch it burn real slow then load the same amount up in a rifle round and fire it to notice how fast it burns with one loud boom Powder starts burning even faster with more compression and it only takes a split second of that compression to make the powder burn so fast it explodes which is what you hear when the rifle discharges a round No compression and all you get is slow burning powder with no power like when you light some powder laying on a table off

@dannygill514710 жыл бұрын
To clear a blockage,you have to use a case that has been fired in that chamber,but not re-sized. It needs the expanded case to pre-seal the chamber. Simply re-prime a fired full power load add powder cotton or paper towel and fire. I am a factory trained gunsmith. I also make lots of obsolete ammo. Your case had two pressures going on. The case body expanded as soon as it fired,but the bullet slowed at the blockage and caused a greater backpressure that tried to get out around the case neck.This causes the neck [ the weakest part] to role back inside itself often tearing in the process. It looked as if the barrel bulged below the hand guard. Did it split slightly? The fastest burning powders work best.

Done in 2 seconds. Stick barrel in drain cover and bend. I've seen it done in the (then still, albeit barely) DDR. Rave all you want about them, but in my book they're still cheap pink commie crap-o-matics.
@prestonsamson36745 жыл бұрын
Nic Jansen just throw it in the mud. Seriously people think it’s a godly gun but they are actually shit. Especially compared to an M-4 or some actually good firearm. Ak’s are meant to be disposable and break but be cheap enough so you can just buy a new one
@WorldEagleKW9 жыл бұрын
About the last case, I think this is what happened. First the bulge in the barrel was created by over pressured air between the bullet and the obstruction. Then the bullet travels past the bulge. Because the bulge has a larger diameter than the bore of the barrel, and now the propelling gas generated from the powder burning can travel into the rifling grooves. (Before there was no gas in the rifling group, because the bullet cuts into the rifling to get its spin). The gas follows the rifling groove back and generate pressure within those grooves, and put puts pressure on the outside of the case. That's why the case was pressed in from the outside. G3 rifle works on the same principle. Because the extraction was too "hot", the designer intentionally created a "bulge" (4 cuts from the barrel to the chamber), to allow gas to flow back and compress the case just a bit. So that the pressure inside the case and outside the case can be countered, thus easing the extraction.

ddsr86 Arisakas are pretty damn cheap, about the cost of a Carcano. So, I'd say that there's a lot. And the flower was sanded off, too, so it wasn't really even historically valuable.

Not really... If your going to do a torture test, use a milsurp gun with no value. I would prefer a "last ditch" rifle (which is made cheaply for the war effort) instead of the one they used in the video. The chrysanthemum has been grounded off, that's what counts. If they did a torture test on an Arisaka Type 99 like mine in good condition (with monopod, airplane sights, and the chrysanthemum fully intact), then I would be pissed off...

joe c The nuke is a german invention stolen by the US. The stealth bomber is a german invention stolen by the US. Modern rocket systems are based on german inventions stolen by the US. The US m60 based on the mg42 and fg42. US modern Helmets are based on the german stahlhelm. shure the US made some nice inventions but when it comes up to war material, nope. Even your M14 looks like the german G43 plus germany invented the first assault rifle on which the ak47 is based on and the me262 was a german jet fighter invented in ww2
@marcomartinez395010 жыл бұрын
i'd say the nuke was developed before we entered germany. And the stealth bomber, was HEAVILY developed by the us from the german plans. And the m14 is a direct derivative of the M1 Garand.
@thecatplaysherenow419810 жыл бұрын
Lol i just said the m14 looks more like a g43 than a garand.
@marcomartinez395010 жыл бұрын
um, the m14 looks exaclty lke a garand with a box magazine and altered gas block, it bears no resemblance to a g43 at all.

I was impressed with the strength of the Model 99 Japanese Service Rifle...probably 1944 vintage. If the testers had honored the piece correctly, they would have stopped the abuse of the rifle after it stood up to the insane overloads. Destroying the rifle with a blocked barrel, and then by being shot to pieces with a 30-06---was not a test. It was just silly...and wasteful...imho. Would they do the reverse with a Garand, or a Springfield bolt action? I don't think so...nor should they. C'mon, man.
@marcusborderlands61776 жыл бұрын
Umm, at that point the gun was worthless... Ever tried to rebarrel a destroyed arisaka? It's hella expensive. Also, would you have trusted a rifle after it had been overloaded to hell and back with your life? Probably no, as you would just buy a new one, and not risk your life. BTW, this gun had no historical value, as the flower on the stock has already been sanded off.
@marcusborderlands61776 жыл бұрын
Oh, and yeah, they would destroy a Springfield in a heartbeat if they could learn something from it, and why didn't you complain about the mosin getting abused?
