Even as a Malaysian myself I consider that kind of behavior as rude towards customers and it's absolutely unacceptable. Next time that happens please note of their names and report them. I'm generally fine with people playing light games at work so long that it doesn't interfere with their work (I did that too sometimes) but when there's a customer around, serving the customers takes priority over whatever you're doing.

Great video. As Malaysian myself, I love to see foreigner experienced Malaysia & gave opinions. It would help us to improve more & learn about each other's culture. My personal opinion as Malaysian myself: 1. Shop staff singing - Its normal if they're singing sometimes during work but still doing their job but I'm gonna be pissed off if I can't pay for my items. Maybe they've done it to release stress 😅 2. Eat during class - We eat as long as it doesn't interfere with the class. I always ate something if I was sleepy. 3. Too much thank you - It depends on person. If between close friends we don't really hope for thank you but more on the act. Exp: If I need help from my friends, s/he would help me & doesn't really need some sort of appreciation. It's okay bcs that's what friends are for, helping friends in need. In the future, if that friends having problem, if I can help I would definitely help in the best way possible within my limit. If between others (not close friends), most of us will say thank you if received help. I agree with you that Malaysian like to do things together. It's part of our culture. If the work needs cooperation we'll do with everyone. But sometimes, people take advantage of the situation. If the work can be done without the need of others, that's just lazy & I hate that. 4. Timeliness - Super agree with you. It's unpredictable. We still need improvement on that. 5. Relax with work - That airport staff was rude btw 😡💢 If you're in that similar situation again, you should do a formal complain. Take note of his/er name or maybe take photos or videos when you do the complaining. 6. Fashion & Make up - Agree with you. Malaysian dress up casually or almost the same bcs it's summer all year. We don't have a need for different kind of clothes (season) unless we have special occasion. Makeup depends on person. 7. Malaysian are expressive - Kinda agree & kinda not. I would say it depends on person. There are people who are open-minded but also some that feel shy. Earphones-Most people doesn't really care as long as it don't bothers them that much. Also wearing ear/headphones means you don't really hears clearly your surrounding.

As for me who have a hard time staying still and have a very short attention span, I prefer more laidback culture. I can work according to my mood. Like 1-2 hour focus then 5-15 minutes off mode. I kind of gotten used to turning on and off this Malaysian button of mine whenever I meet them. There's a lot of small things that are also different but not as obvious such as table etiquette, personal space, body language, greetings, etc. All in all, it's really interesting to meet, talk and understand people from a society that has been homogeneous for a long time and let's you realize that multi-racial country like Malaysia is indeed rather interesting as well

Ah yeah you're right about the earphones/headphones. For me, I prefer using them. I will only not use them when I'm amongst familiar people or the audio isn't needed to be on full volume. But most of the time, I refrain myself from making unnecessary noises. But cultural wise, the people who don't use headphones are usually elders cause they aren't familiar with such devices, and that's the most boomer thing they can do, Im not even joking

A show of a lazy, upbeat malaysian working with a strict and disciplined japanese would definitely be fun to watch

Hi, it's normal for you to have culture shock 😙 Malaysian have 3 major races (Malay, Chinese and Indian) and other minority races, don't confuse! We have 1 culture, no matter how busy we are, we will going back to our hometown or village (or called as "musim balik kampung" in Malay), during public holiday. This is one of our culture.
