Joined by her exuberant host Chie-san, Shizuka Anderson explores Shiogama Wholesale Fish Market (a.k.a. Nakaoroshi Market) to build their own kaisendon (seafood bowl) with the delicious fish on sale there.
Next, they make a stop at Shiogama Shrine, which is said to be the home of the Salt God. In fact, Shiogama translates to “salt pot,” and historically the town is famous for its seaweed salt production.
After this detour, it’s back to the food portion of the food tour, and the duo stop by a shop selling dango (sweet rice dumplings) that come in five different flavors, a rakugan (traditional Japanese sweets) store, and a green tea shop for a tea tasting.
FEATURED FOODS
Kaisendon (with otoro fatty tuna, ikura, scallops, salmon, mackerel)
Japanese sweets (flavored with zunda, anko, walnut, black sesame, & soy sauce)
Rakugan (traditional Japanese sweets)
