The video describes the history and structure of Japanese Folding Screens. The video was funded by The Samuel Kress Fund through Foundation of American Institute for Conservation (FAIC). Nishio Conservation Studio is one of a few Conservation Studios where they conserve and restore Japanese Folding Screens.

I got very lucky and stumbled on to the Laquer Boxes..that led me to these Awesome and very intricate designs..I'm wondering if The Met in New York has any on display..this Speing I have developed a love for Russian Icons, Lauren Boxes and now, Chinese Screens..

I read somewhere that the gold leaf was favored so it would reflect open flame light and better illuminate a room at night. Is this true?

Yes, that is right. Also malachite and azurite pigment glow in dark.

@@YoshiNishio I didn’t know about the blue pigments phosphorescence. I am looking into getting a newly made inlaid gold byōbu with blue irises as the theme. I’ll ask what pigments they use. Thanks!

Every city has local studios that make byobu screens. I would say at least one hundred of them. Please google to find them.

I just checked and it was "not made for kids" as I did originally; So it is NOT made for kids
