I just witnessed your little move. I'm gonna do this same move forever. You placed your scribe at the cut mark, and then pulled your square up to it, then scribed down the square blade. You set the distance from the blade before positioning the square. Ingenious! Thank you for the videos. Beautiful work.

You are a true craftsman Sir. You care about the craft you love, that shows. Please find someone who is patient, willing to listen, learn, and pass on your knowledge and experience. Very few these days appreciate the craftsmanship a master like you puts into a piece. I look forward to your next project Sir.

Great to see you and your wife are producing content again! The last three videos have been just beautiful: musically, asthetically and of course content-wise as usual. They are such a pleasure to watch for me, as they calm me in this turbulent world. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for continuing your channel and not stopping once your new family member was born. What glue are you using to attach the paper to the wood?

Thank you so much!! It is always a pleasure and it gets me down to earth seeing new content from you!! It helps a lot to calm me down and focus not even for my own "projects" (a very big word for this crap i make) but for life itself. Sounds dramatic, but yeah, it is kind of therapeutical for me. So all the best for the four of you and greetings from germany!!

It's very beautiful - I love your videos, and I love your craftmanship. I can imagine delicate, simple screens like that in my grandmother's house. I can imagine my cousins and I visiting my grandmother, and seeing screens like these leading out to my grandmother's garden. I can imagine playing with my cousins on my grandmother's lawn. I can see myself being chased by my cousins, and I can see myself accidentally running right through one of those beautiful paper walls. I can imagine my parents beating me while promising my grandmother that new sliding doors would be purchased with my allowance (I'm older than most of the Gen X crowd - beatings were not only permitted, they were considered essential). I can imagine being forced to sit in the car by myself.

I become very calm, concentrate on the way you do your work, enjoy every step and am always absolutely satisfied with the result. Although all of my friends know me better as someone who is skeptical and perfectionist. But surely you are also the latter. Thanks for an excellent video as always, Mr Ishitani. We don't have such things as shoji screens commonly in the UK, normally, so this video is particularly interesting to see how they are made and installed. I have used shoji techniques for making andon lamps, and it was quite difficult to get the correct shoji paper here, but I got lucky.

Wow. I had no idea how substantial real shoji screens were, or that the paper was on both sides with the lattice in between. I was tasked with making a set to hang in the front windows of my former neighbors new home using modern laminated rice paper. My frame was about the size of your lattice pieces. I also made them with lattice pieces on both sides so the wood could be seen from outside and inside, silly me, and so the laminated paper could be removed for cleaning or replacement. I wish that I'd had the kind of tools that you do. That off-white machine that shaves the wood is like magic!
