I'm currently in Hawaii and I just learned that the Shirokiya had been closed permanently. Broke my heart. Tried it back in 2017 and it was amazing. Covid strikes again.

don't get to hawaii much, but Takahashi's market (family owned) in San Mateo makes awesome Spam Musubi (where you can see/taste the spam). Also their Portuguese musubi is great... as is their delicious variety of Hawaiian-style plate lunches and bento. My definite go-to place when craving a bit of Hawaii!

Born and raised in Honolulu but now living in San Antonio, Texas. This series brings back so many memories. I've been in San Antonio for over 23 years so I can't really tell you where to eat anymore but you have been hitting many of the favorites. You need to try some Poke ( marinated raw fish ). Unfortunately there are so many varieties so the best will be different for everyone. Also, there is a char siu bow (Manapua) that has black sugar in center rather than char siu - just ask for black sugar manapua, I think you will like it. It is like a dessert. 😊 Enjoy, I personally miss the food in Hawaii the most!

Good for you, 1 thing he left out was that they sell alcohol there too, and the greatest thing was that the price ranges from $1-3/glass of beer, recently they raised the price up a little bit, but instead of $1, it's 2, 3 now, but if you buy food with a big portion they give you $1 coupon that you can pay for your beer or other goods types of alcohol. Even $2, 3, it's still a really good deal compare to in the restaurants/bars A great place to hang out for everyone, especially big groups, plenty of tables, food choices and drinks, but peak hours like from 6 to 8pm, finding a table weekend time is a challenge too, but you will get it :) Enjoy your time here in September:)
