2009 From the Chinese film 'City of Life and Death', regarding the Rape of Nanking. Remarkably, it seems the soldiers are played by Japanese. This does not appear to be a victory march, but a commemoration of fallen comrades: the preceding scene (omitted here) showed what I took to be soldiers carrying boxes containing ashes from cremation, and the placing of offerings on Japanese tombstones.

Did you guys notice the tone of the taiko drum? They are paying respect to the soldiers killed in action but there is not a hint of sadness in the procession music and the ritual. I think this provides critical clues to the mindsets of Imperial soldiers and their fanaticism. These drum beats and ritual dance feels more like the kind of rally to get soldiers mentally ready to do battle. This clearly shows that they were operating under the mindsets similar to Madmax warboys and under a Bushido/Shinto afterlife belief that is similar to ancient Nordic beliefs of Valhala. I don't think these guys were sad or trying to make peace at all; I think the ritual is meant to celebrating, congratulating, and revering the "triumph" and "glorious transcendence" of the dead spirits and rally them to march towards some version of Valhalla kind of afterlife. Again, this is so much different from the somber and peaceful Christian funeral procession. On a side note. How did Japanese turn from this to panties, stockings, and anime boobs and legs n less than 50 years? lol.

@Shai Hulud Interesting concept, but, still, the fact there are people who filmed this incredible piece means there are those who respect their culture and not all is lost. To be honest, it's quite the west's (primarily USA's) fault that they portray Japanese as an inferior perverted nation. Japanese produce what west buys. Media is just another industrial sector. West wants to see and pay good money for perverted cartoons and porn movies? Sure, Japan complies. Western superpowers tend to humiliate people they conquer, and Japan has done the same through raping and pillaging in every country it conquered.... but the humiliation of Japan has turned more into a cultural element than social warfare strategy. My European country was conquered by NATO, we are going through the same in a way. Sure, Japanese are to blame, but sometimes you can't fight an entire world to right the wrongs. I hope they wake up and re-embrace their nationalist spirit in true light.
