I'm glad u cover Karate Combat. It's an underrated gem in Combat sports. And Raymond Daniels is a bad ass. OG flashy/effective and tricky as well as fundamentally solid.

that was an amazing fight. People underestimate Aghayev because he comes from point fighting but this is like his fourth fight in KC? He was there in the very first event so he's pretty much a veteran at this point lol and he's getting the hang of the full contact system

Years ago I competed and sparred against Raymond Daniels back when I competed under NASKA (North America Sport Karate Association)! Both times I lost. He had such an unorthodox fighting style on top of being really quick and elusive. Even though I lost I was proud I scored on him a few times.

People underestimate how hard it is to fight a fast and compact fighter like Aghayev. Crazy reflexes, strong wrestling, fast punches, perfect timing and distance management. For a kickbased opponent he's just a nightmare.
@mituc

Before the match I wish Aghayev won because he's a Shotokan karateka so more on the traditional side, but to be honest knowing what Raymond can do I was like 75/25 towards him. After the first minute of the first round however seeing Aghayev basically annihilating pretty much all Raymond could throw and even working that massive height disadvantage into a big advantage was extraordinary. I always lose to equally skilled opponents who are significantly higher than me. Now this fight is something to learn a lot from.

I expected Aghayev to win this. He's a very crafty fighter and has been fighting very tall, long, rangy guys with flashy kicks and darting punches forever in WKF, and has typically dealt with them by taking them down all day and countering with sharp reflexes and smart movement. He did the same thing here.

Daniel's the longer fighter should have used front leg quick kicks, side check kicking and z kicking faking the punch, I am a Taekwondo Instructor and competitor, WIth Daniel's kicking skills, speed and reach he could have easily picked him apart with front leg kicks and reach, I think he got caught up in the other guys game trying to short fight with punches and rea leg kicks that appeared more telegraphed. JMHO. Sir.

Tbh, that was to be expected. Rafael has been fighting the world's best karateka for decades... O f course you can't just use the karate point fighting style against him. People talked a lot about Raymond's height and reach advantage, but didn't consider the fact that Rafael is used to fight taller people than him all the time. In some occasions, like in team kumite or in the open weight matches, Aghayev fought heavyweights like Maniscalco and Arkania. It really was a easy matchup for him. Good fight, notheless.
@praetosstuff8230
@praetosstuff8230 Жыл бұрын
Well Raymond Daniels was a kickboxing champion, meaning that he has much more experience with full contact fighting than Agahyev and has a stamina advantage thanks to that. So seeing him lose convincingly and seemingly not adapting is appalling and dissappointing coming from a fighter of his caliber.
@jacopo.dainotto
@jacopo.dainotto Жыл бұрын
@@praetosstuff8230 I respect his experience in full contact, but his style is nothing exceptional for a guy like Aghayev. Compared to guys like Stanislav Horuna or Luigi Busà, Daniels is just not as fast, nor tricky enough to catch Aghayev in mistake. The only good lead hand he landed was in the fifth round, when Aghayev was just giving him whatever he had left in the tank. He can rematch Raefael, but he'll realize that his "adjustments" (punching lower, or whatever) won't work. He's got better chances to hurt Rafael quick gun blazing. Coz picking his shots at range is the easiest path to losing to Rafael, as you saw

I’m aware Raphael is slowing down too but you can see a clear difference between 42 and 37, Raymond was a lot faster and more explosive even at that age. You don’t see many elite fighters over 40. That being said there still both amazing at what they can do during this time of their careers.

5ft 4 inch guy beat 6ft 2 inch? Now you know how Bruce Lee could beat bigger guys.
@williamhu1401
@williamhu1401 Жыл бұрын
Define "bigger" though. While RD had the clear height and reach advantage, the fight was held at welterweight (165lb) which means that even with post weigh-in rehydration, their actual mass in the ring was going to be reasonably similar. There's a reason why combat sports divide using weight classes, not height classes. Being the taller, lankier fighter at a limited weight class isn't always an advantage, since the shorter, more compact fighter will generally have greater strength on the inside. Bruce Lee was probably closer to bantamweight (maybe lightweight if he really bulks) in size, and if he got matched against a welterweight or middleweight opponent he would be at a disadvantage, especially if the skill level was similar. In this fight Agayev did a great job with distance management, and often made Daniels overreach on his attacks. Being more compact, Agayev probably would have held the advantage up close whereas RD's best chance was to pick Agayev apart from range, and the Azerbaijani fighter was able to force his plan upon the taller fighter.

What bigger guys did Lee beat? Name one. Don't say Chuck Norris because that was a movie. I like Lee's movies, but I've never seen anyone be able to name anyone that Lee has "beaten". He taught a lot of bigger guys like Joe Lewis, Mike Stone, etc., he had a brilliant mind, but who'd he beat?

@@barrettokarate Did you witness the formation of the sun? I hate people who want proof of everything! Bruce was a teacher and master, who understood that with the right condition and fighting techniques you could overcome bigger opponents. You don't need proof for everything! lol Royce Gracie was a smaller guy than many of his UFC opponents yet he took them out one by one. Size does not matter with the right conditions and techniques. Infact, many smaller guys take out bigger guys every day on the streets! ask anyone of such a story and they will tell you emphatically.

@@bossahmed4085 are you still on bruce lee’s cool aid? Bruce Lee has never fought a fighter of high caliber. Who did he fight? What are you using as basis? Anecdotes? His written philosophies? His movies? Newspapers with disputable credibilities? Exhibitions? Bruce can fight, that’s for sure. But, he cannot defeat high-class opponents. And yes - you do not need proof for everything, but you need at least one proof. T
@bossahmed4085
@bossahmed4085 Жыл бұрын
@Jake Collins Who exactly did you beat up? There are plenty of people who worked with Bruce lee that can vouch for him. Plus, he was a martial artist before he became a movie star. His life did not always have a camera following him. If UFC fighter Khabib didnt enter the ring would you believe him if he told you that he used to fight people in the streets? No you would not! People like you only believe what they can see. Shame you never saw your father conceiving you, which means you can't be certain who is your father.
