I just bought a house and the previous owners planted a red japanese maple about 2 feet from the foundation in a little corner garden plot. Do you think this would be an issue as the plant grows? Its about 4ft tall right now

Do you know if there are any ways to maximize the amount of pink in the leaves? I get some, but it's fairly scarce and faint where it is present.

You could just buy a acer butterfly very similar tree and the butterfly has pink tinge on leaves

I'm familiar with Butterfly. Not really a fan. The leaf shape, size, and variegation are completely different. All they share is including the colours of green, white, and pink.

Hey, I'm not an expert but I've seen that the colors are (unfortunately) greatly affected by the climate (temperatures and sun exposure). In my area (Greece - Zone 9b-10a approx), I mostly get boring green colors in all my maples, but I have been experimenting, I put a few high in the mountains where it gets around -10°C in winter and spring comes very slowly and the colors are amazing. Sun also affects the colors, so I try to give them as much as possible until they look happy. If I was to make a suggestion, it would be: - Put them in the ground once you're sure about the sun tolerance (colder roots - slow leafing out - I've noticed way better colors) - As much sun as they can tolerate. Some crispy leaves would be OK (you might need to shelter them with a shade cloth in the hottest summer months until you find the proper exposure for your area). Morning sun usually is the most common advice. For me that's not possible due to the house orientation. - Fertilize with smaller doses (I do 30-50% of the suggested) the variegated plants, nitrogen leads to greener leaves and longer internodes (slender looking trees) All the above with a disclaimer that I'm no expert, but hope I help a bit!
