It’s a transition from standing to running. It’s like changing gear with manual car. Most of us from standing to running, we “just do it”, there’s nothing wrong about it. This way of short distance start-up is more like take body weight to shift your balance forward, YET you don’t stick your leg of the first step all the way forward, you only do it half way out, then it goes the same with second step with back leg. After the first two steps, you pick up the momentum, then you enter full running mode. It seems pointless for some people, but for stealthy purpose(for ninjas and martial artists), the first two steps will be quieter and formless compare to normal start-up running. This way to start up running is more effortless if it’s not faster than just push yourself from standing right into running. Instead of just using one’s muscles( limbs), manipulating body weight can be more effective.
Yes I understand that this is about using force of gravity from shifting your center of weight + lifting your front foot, instead of using it as a lever (or obstacle) to get it out of the way of your movement. but in the end, it looks just like normal running, lol we need a comparison in slow-mo for people to see the difference.

The difference is that he starts off with his front foot instead of his rear foot. He shifts the rear forward kicking off with his front foot. Whereas, most runners today beit professional, amateur, or non will start off kicking with the rear foot. Small difference. As to which is better at launching depends on how a person using the variations of the form.

the point of this technique was in sword fighting or that kind of stuff when you want to conceal the start of your movement so your enemies won't get alerted, it might not be faster than normal running, but with more traditional clothing(where the pants is not as tight around the legs, maybe even a robe covering your legs), it can seem like you just suddenly entered full speed running mode, giving you a huge advantage when attacking
this is a lesson of how to complicated a simple thing.

Michael Jai White took longer to explain how to straight punch at someone’s eyes so their eyes and brain don’t detect the approaching motion. Simple things have nuance. If you saw this guy with a knife or sword, and he did this short run at you, it would take you slightly longer to detect his motion and react. And that’s why bladed weapons are so dangerous within fifteen feet. He brought up basketball players for a reason; they train movements like these.

not really, its like breathing, there is controlled breathing and just breathing normal
I get it. He uses momentum from his body shifting from his front foot to the next foot with out overly exerting energy. he started with his front foot close to standing position leaned and continued with his other foot. Thus a quick movement with no drag or injury. In short he over explained lean into a run.
I had been watching this for 2 minutes with patience thought he would do some cool skill, and then he just ran like my 5 years old kids imitating the thunder breath in demon slayer😂
