I remember when the Japanese ground tree was added to the game. To this day it was my favorite update. The Japanese tanks are so unique and cool, save for a couple american ones at mid tier.

Fun fact: STB-1 is supposed to have an autoloader, that’s why the turret was longer on Type 74s, because they needed room for a human loader. Edit: after some digging i found out that it was a loader assist, more similar to previous japanese designs than that of an actual autoloader. So it had a human loader, but his job was half automated and needed less space

hes right. but wrong at the same time. theres alot of prototypes made for the Type 74 tank (named as STB- series) and one of those had a autoloader, but the Japanese decided to use a auto "reloader" instead. To clarify, the US did very little after occupying Japan in terms of regulating their military. By the time of discussion of reorganization of the Japanese military, America wished Japan to fully bring back their military to take away burdens of guarding it and gaining a potential ally in future conflicts. Japan however preferred to keep to a new pacifist mentality and make it a self defense force. A decision still in effect that the US to this day, prefers Japan to fully devote to a military. Although the JSDF is still one of the top militaries in the world despite the self defense title.

The Type 90 prototype was not in fact called STC; the designation “ST (trial tank)” was dropped alongside all the other “trial” designation types for prototype and experimental vehicles in 1980, and the first Type 90 prototype was constructed only by 1981. At that point, the vehicle was designated TK-X 0001

yeah, that really bothers me that he said that. To explain what C4I means to less nerdy people (aka not either of us), it's a computerized battlefield data management system, combining the 4 C's (Command, Control, Communication, and Computer) and an I (Intelligence) into one integrated system. It's highly advanced, and as far as I know, the Type 10 is the only tank to equip such a system.

Great video, love the Type 10 was added, hopefully as the game's meta pushes forward, the rated protection can meet the officially rated standards of resistance and missing NERA plate for protecting the driver in the lower frontal plate can be added, it's understandable that it isn't currently modeled as such for game balance reasons, but it is important to remember the Type 10 in fact has better nominal frontal armor than the Type 90, as it has substantially more armor by mass thanks to weight saving measures in areas such as the engine, transmission, and gun.

@Arron Incorrect, you can in fact see official documents, including a patent, showing the geometry of the lower plate NERA, as well as it having been rated for similar protection as the other NERA modules. If you're curious, please go read document "陸上自衛隊仕様書 GV-Y120001E 10式戦車". it states "車筐の正面下部に装着した状態で, "あ" に貫徹されない。", translated "When attached to the lower part of the front of the hull, and bulletproof against "あ"".

I love the video, there is so much information about the Japanese army post WWII. Japan also have lots of build prototypes, and i would really like to see the Japanese ground vehicles in the game. The forums have gathered so many tank designs for Japan, but they are all in consideration... Gaijin, could you perhaps take a look at the forums, and perhaps give us a update with a lot of Japanese ground vehicles; since that would make Japan a real grind worthy nation in the game. :)

As a japanese main I literally love japanese MBTs my favourites are type74s/90s and 10. They are hard to play but thats exectly what i lobe about them, because its not just blind going forward you need to think about it. Anyway i hope japan will get some new vehicles like STC or type81 SPAA🇯🇵

Should add the Type 99 SPH, and Type 96 MPMS so we could get a few more tanks at high tier japan, even if they are not at the tippy top, they are arill lacking. Esepcially the tank destroyer front. Also, maybe a second type 89. The one with a modified hull. Or the Komatsu B78, an experimental IFV that had a prototype.

As a japan main, I do like the japanese MBTs. They are very fun to play and it is a nice change of pace from the standard spam of US/german/russian vehicles. However, the nerfs man. The constant nerfs. They just keep losing out for no reason. Ive seen the historical documents for these nerfs on the forums, but the thing is, Ive also seen people posting plenty of historical documents buffing these vehicles which seems to have been either ignored or just been really slow on the uptake. Its bizzare, annoying, and disheartening when you constantly see patch notes with "japanese vehicle is getting yet another nerf" with very, very few buffs by comparison. Also, the STB-1 needs to go back to 7.7. it shouldn't be at 8.0 after removing its good optics AND its HEAT shell, which the Type 74C gets at 8.0 anyway.

Not sure where you're at, but things look up from the Shinhoto Chi-Ha onwards, its 47mm is a great gun and it sets the pace for most Japanese tanks. Armour and mobility are pretty average, but the guns are excellent. Most have good gun depression, high velocity guns with powerful APHE - the perfect snipers. Fight from hills or defilade, support your teammates from mid-long range. My general rule is to hang back in good cover and concealment, taking shots at the dangerous tanks that you can kill. If you get uptiered, wait for an opening and then go for a flank!

As a someone who has already completed the entire Japanese ground tech tree, the Type 74s and STB are really fun. I recommend you set controls for hydroneumatic suspension so that you can use it. Unfortunately all Type 74s, STB and etc.. are all getting nerfed next update.

Well i much prefer the type 89 with its atgms, good 35mm gun and thermals at 8.3 but its also getting nerfed along with all type 74s (including stb)

@@Squisbabvs All Type 74s, STB and Type 87 (SPAAG) are getting their reverse speeds halved from 14 to 7, the type 89 is getting major turret traverse nerfs, I think the RCV is also getting turret traverse nerfs, but that might be the SPAA. That’s it. I think.

The MBT's are really honestly great, I love to play Japanese vehicles most after having grinded out Germany, but a few things really stop me from enjoying Japan: 1) Lack of good AA. Kancer-50's ruin your gameplay monumentally. The Type 93 just doesn't give the Japanese that defensive capability, the Type 87 can't reliably reach. Getting past 9.7 was hell, and is still Hell playing above that due to relying on having Americans or Germans on the team for the ADATS and Rads 2) Russian BR balance is troll AF. STA and Type 74's struggle against tanks like the Object 279 and BMP-2M for next to no reason except Stalinium Armor. Can smack a BMP on the weakest points and the engine or single crew mate will eat the damage up and give them time to punish you. Object 279 bounces everything that isn't ATGM, and eats ATGM's for lunch. Ridiculous. 3) Constant nerfing, or having "similar performance" vehicles that just underperform everyone else. And with Nerfs happening yet again, they just don't perform. Even the WR stats of all Nations reflects that Japan does not compete very well.

@@Eeezy3972 Although to be fair, tier 3 with the Chi-Ri and Na-To was a pretty good finale for the Imperial era of Japan, the Na-To especially was a guilty pleasure of mine. It was especially good combined with some of the American vehicles you get mixed in. I quite enjoyed that tier.
