@j-tuned19559 жыл бұрын
by classic do you mean that body style or an actual older car. Moog's is a 96 or newer model which usually aren't too expensive. I guess your location can play a role in price but as long as they were exported to where you live they shouldn't be too much.
@PhillipRyanConaway9 жыл бұрын
Classic, as in, the marque used for the non-BMW cars. There are a few of them in U.S. but it's difficult to find one that is less than $10k USD. Their recent popularity has definitely raised their value.
@vroomtastic14969 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Conaway your best bet is to have one imported from the UK. Find an importing company willing to work with you, find a Mini that's at least 25 years old, and have it shipped over. I was looking into it recently and it would be pretty easy to have a decent car here for 4-5k USD

This makes me want a Mini even more, especially since I found the perfect one the other day. £4,200 and in mint condition, the owners claim to have spent thousands on it and it shows. New windshield, grill, wheels and tires, handbrake handle, gearshift knob, bucket seats and twin exhausts. To top it of it's the 1275 engine. Perfect.

I got a huge chuckle out of your intro. Back in 1967, when I was 15, I got my first car - a '62 Morris Mini (with a '65 850 engine !) I too learned on the driveway - back and forth. That must have driven the neighbours batty. The man who sold it to me raced a Cooper S at Mosport and refurbed Minis for sale to support his habit. So of course I hung around his garage and absorbed the Ambiance of Modding. He sold me a louvered hood (bonnet) for $2 ! That car was coloured white and black. I wanted British Racing Green. All the neighbourhood kids helped in sanding and body prep. One week before the paint, another mini at school beat me too it, so I went 'exotic (in my now 16 year old opinion) and went with a 'Corvette "hugger orange" That car glowed !. I still have the Mini Jones so you can be sure I will enjoy every one of your adventures with this beauty. Cheers from Canada

This walk-around is so great, and the quality of your videos is getting better and better. You can tell that love is put into every one of the videos you do. This MINI looks absolutely mad, and as I've said before my '06 is so jealous. While I agree that the 'new' MINI is more complicated and maybe BMW just slapped the MINI badge on, but, I think that the first generation big MINIs have something to offer as well. There is a huge modding culture with my R53, and I'm super happy to be a part of it. My german R53 is unlike any other german car I've driven (granted it hasn't been a lot) in that it has character, and just wants to be thrashed. My buddy and I had the opportunity to throw it around the corners for the first time since buying it two weeks ago. No matter how hard we pushed it, the car just seemed to be begging for more. I'm so excited to begin modding it, and thanks to MCM I feel like I have a good understanding of what to tackle. It WILL be autocrossed, and it will be loved. The R53 certainly isn't a classic MINI; there is nothing that can replace it. Let's just agree that it's no slouch, either. You guys rock, and thanks again for helping me begin my modding journey.

Sorry Moog - the ONLY reason the Mini was designed was to cut in on the huegly popular Volkswagen Beetle in the 50' and 60's. ALL cars after the war were small and crappy and unsafe. My mother died in a Mini and my brother almost got killed in one. Yes, it is mostly because Cornwall is full of arseholes in tractors and Range Rovers, but the Mini has no safety features what so ever and I am surprised how many people still get behind the wheel of such a death trap. I want to drive a car that looks cool and saves my life if some twat decides to go racing in town traffic...

@benjackson26948 жыл бұрын
not true. The story that Moog tells is true. If you want a death trap then get yourself a beetle. I'm sorry but you must be pretty silly to crash a mini as they handle so well. Issigonis said it himself
@Candisa7 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry the Mini is linked to such bad memories for you, and it is a fact it's pretty much safer to ride a motorcycle, but that can be said about a lot of older cars, including Volvo's of the time the Mini came out. My first cars were Mini's and just like Moog I hope to soon be the proud owner of one again, and although I will keep my 2016 3star safety rated comfortable daily car alongside the Mini, I am pretty sure anytime the weather is reasonable and the planned trip isn't too long I'll be going with the Mini. Despite being a car enthusiast I am very down to Earth about even the rarest car being just a materialistic utility... But the combination of the nostalgia and the looks, the handling, the feel... of a Mini simply makes it the only car I long to own again, spend as much time in/on it as possible, and never ever sell again, even if it's unreliable or something or somebody wants me to sell it. I know in detail what I want to do with the engine, interior, exterior colours and accessories, audio, electric wiring upgrade... I apologize for the bluntness of the following statement considering your link with the Mini, but people still die in modern cars as well, crash tests are still done at much lower speeds than a real world serious accident and I would personally rather die behind the wheel of a Mini than be saved but become even more disabled behind the wheel of my 2016 daily. Both are very realistic outcomes of a 90km/h crash, except in a Mini I might be small and agile enough to last-second find a way to avoid the faith.

Really great to see classic Minis getting attention and upgrades and stuff. I've had, and loved, my R53 since new (build date 9/03) and want to import a 1995-2000 sometime soon. Gotta have a proper classic Mini with the new gen :D

I really enjoy this style of video. It has a different feel from all the other automotive videos out there and I find it rather interesting. I love the way Moog shares a bunch about the history of these minis It would be really cool to see more videos like this form you guys.

I too got a mini for my first car, a 2005 base model convertible with a 5 speed manual, and I'm the first one in my family to own one. My grandparents had bought it off of a family friend of theirs with 59,000 miles just a couple of years ago. I always thought these were pretty cool looking cars but I never knew how well they performed until I drove mine for the first time. I had never driven a standard before but I eventually got the hang of it. I was especially surprised how well they handle in the snow and I live in Buffalo, NY. My mom's 08 Acadia is front wheel drive with traction control but it's awful in the snow even with brand new tires. My mini has a black paint job and the peanut butter black interior along with the upgraded Harman/Kardon sound system and chrome trimmed interior. I'm pretty happy with the sound system but I do wish the woofers were a little better. Although the car has been quite problematic for me, it's still a lot of fun to drive. I replaced the clutch last year since it was slipping badly and I just took it to my trusted mechanic yesterday for a new transmission and pressure plate. But since I've owned this car, I've learned a lot about owning a car other than the basic maintenance. My brother will be getting his permit soon and he's been a car enthusiast longer than I have and I'm sure he'd love to learn how to drive a standard. Heck maybe when I get a newer car I'll pass my mini on to him. If anyone is planning to buy a used first gen mini, I would recommend getting at least a cooper s with the 6 speed manual. From the research I've done, the CVT automatic and the 5 speed manuals were poorly designed and built by BMW while the 6 speed manual was built by Getrag and they're a lot more robust. The 5 speed manual becomes problematic between 60,000-80,000 miles and there aren't any rebuild kits for any of the transmissions so if something goes wrong, you have to buy a whole new unit. You could also have a 6 speed installed in a base model (non s) but it's a very expensive job because you need new shift linkages, starter motor, clutch kit, and more.

Saw one of these in a Dark Metallic Grey with Light Grey striping and roof at a little car show in Lake Tahoe this past weekend. If it would have had a for sale sign on it, I'd have sold my '06 Evo9 and my '85 Corolla GTS Hatch to own it. These cars are so friggin awesome and fun to drive.

Always wanted a mini, and now even more. This might be my first car.

moog you are my hero for buying a mini knowing what people would think! its a shame all people think about nowadays is who has the bigger engine or the faster car. When really its about the history, the sentimental value and enjoyment of the car you drive. not to mention the fact that modifying a car is all about making cheaper car then a Ferrari drive like one and customising it to your own taste and style. Looking forward to seeing what you do to it man good luck!

OK -- I have to take back my comments from the unavailing, this car and so randy!!! It is neat that you are going back to your roots with a car that was the first you had. I wish I could go back to my roots, I had a 1965 Mustang Convertible with the 289 HO engine. I am looking forward to see what you have in store for Mini Moog

A sweet smell and a light film on the inside of the windshield is 99% going to be the heater core. Glad you were able to replace it and find the part. Keep doing things in a Might way

To be completely honest, I don't know a mate who's parent's didn't own a mini at least once in their life. The mini is one of the most iconic vehicles to date, and it really shows.

Honestly, I wasn't enthused by the addition of a FWD Mini to the MCM universe, but having watched this video I've come to realize that there is a genuine passion and history for Moog with these cars. I'm glad you guys (Marty and Moog) continue to entertain and educate us with these videos, despite the actions of us "fans" (there's no excuse for the harassment you and your families have suffered from people who claim to love the show). I thank you. On a sidenote: is that a Honda CBR600 F3 in the back ground?

I just love my classic mini to bits. There are days where you wonder why you have it, consider selling it, as it is just sapping money. But whenever you get in it and turn her on, you forget all that and just have fun.

My first car was a Mini Moke, basically Mini running gear in a Jeep style body. Great first car, unless it's winter. Didn't do much mods apart for a new HU, replacing the roof and painting it.
