This "Shiawase bag/四合わせ袋" is one of the popular traditional bag patterns in Japan, often the big ones go with regular kimono or yukata. As she says, in the old days, those silk or Chirimen cloth scraps were very precious, made into Kinchaku (drawstring bag), thimbles, sewing tool cases, Oshi-e (lightly-padded cloth pictures), dolls and doll clothes, and Saiku-mono/細工物 (small drawstring bags used to keep Japanese harp finger picks or incense.) The Japanese like to play the words that have double meanings, making into whatever good luck ones can have, like this bag's name. (四合わせ/幸せ.)

That really is a happiness bag! It looks so beautiful and very handy! I love the fabrics you’ve used. However, I liked your idea at the end of the video - it would be interesting to see a sashiko version of the same bag design.
@thegreenwrapperАй бұрын
Thank you😊 My initial idea was to do Sashiko! I should do it someday👍 This fabric was from a thrift store. I actually shot a video when I opened the bag of a bunch of fabric but the video became too long so I had to cut it😅

@@thegreenwrapper fabric stashes do have a tendency to run away with you, don’t they! 🤣

I went for a rescue mission and rescued the fabric bag and a big jar of embroidery thread😂

@@thegreenwrapper rescue mission! that is what I’ll be calling my thrift shopping from now on! 🤣 Those mixed bags of scraps can be so inspirational.

Trying this:) but those toy ones that even had patterns! Please consider recreating them
@thegreenwrapperАй бұрын
They must be from very old books😊 I’ll try to find something I can recreate👍
@tessformosaАй бұрын
@@thegreenwrapper that would be amazing. The museum probably has patterns but it's closed until 2025:/

Could you do inside and outside the same way to make the bag reversable?
@thegreenwrapperАй бұрын
You can, but you have to make sure to close up the side opening nicely as the seam runs diagonal and visible from the front when you use it inside out. There’s also more traditional way of making the inside bag part. It looks really cute at the bottom. I have the photo in my instagram post😊
