It’s funny because only recently (like last month) I started collecting commons because I noticed the artworks started looking amazing around matchless fighters (or even before that). I only buy a few expensive cards that I really enjoy. I stopped trying to get all of them and focused more on commons cards and I started feeling better about my collection :)

I gotta agree. I hope that this issue reduces or becomes better as time passes. At the end of the day, the wider the base pokemon card collecting has, the more potential income the company has, so I think this won't be a super big issue long term (we may see another self correction in my opinion)

Great tips! A collection of cards that caught my eye were the secret rare cosmic eclipse cards that feature pokémon with their trainers. It's around 10 USD per card which is on the more expensive side for a small time collector like me, but I'm highly considering it

This was a really thought provoking conversation to watch live, and I've been thinking about it since then. I'm gonna be sticking with my Regis and Latis for sure, but also am gonna look through my collection for what my favourite cards are and start making curated binder pages around them. My inital thoughts are stuff like a doulbe spread, with same mon on one page and same artist on the other. Or say West Sea Gastrodon on the left and East Sea on the right - big fan of the sluggy guy. Either way, Im excited about putting together a currated collection of my own - thanks for the inspiration!

I'm really getting into Pokémon cards at the worst time FeelsBadMan... Buying boxes at a retail price feel like a dream, I can't believe it used to be so much easier, I think I'll stick with collecting for while so I hope I'll get to see a return to normal soon. Taking away the financial side of collecting is a great idea, I personally like a lot if not most of the v max cards that aren’t the rainbow variant in the newer sets … Saves loads of money

Another idea when you are burnt out is to take the cards you already have and try to make a deck. I made my first deck last weekend and had a really fun time doing it.

im shocked at how little artist collections i see tbh. i started a komiya binder a bit ago and its filling up really nice. hes been my favorite illustrator for a long time now and its amazing to see his cards from vending series back in 1998 to cards hes drawn in the latest set. ill never get tired of seeing a new komiya illustration

Great content once again. This channel is really underrated. It is quite Informative and the topic on Card illustrator is in my opinion should be talked about. Sadly most of the Pokecollector only goes for secret rares or promos (financially attractive) and quickly ignore the less rare common cards. My current favourite so far is Misaki Hashimoto (wishiwashi card). She only have one card so far but the art looks fantastic to me and it is not even expensive to own. Looking forward to more similar content in the future.

Totally agree with you on the other collecting options! I’ve been collecting kawayoo cards ever since HGSS and it’s honestly one of my favorite collections. Majority of the cards are much easier to obtain than these SRs and very affordable. That being said….the price of the Umbreon VMAX alt art is breaking my soul 😭

I collect all the cards with the artist "Sekio". His cards are super cheap, almost all are commons and his art is insanely detailed and colorful traditional artwork. He only has 50 cards so far in english. I have been collecting them since his sun and moon caterpie because the art was so good I got inspired to start buying each card he makes.

These are great ideas; I will start checking the artwork from artists more often now. What I started doing around 2011/12 was simply adding general cards I liked but from the same energy Type; binder’s sheets look very colorful

I feel like the JP market is going through the same peaking demand and low supply the US Pokemon sets went through just a couple months ago. When printing finally catches up with demand again and things cool down like they did in the US, products should be easier to obtain thus lowering the price of singles as people open a lot more product again.

I think you're right. Japanese sets are definitely going through something similar to the English sets late last year. It was bound to happen with the JPN market being so much smaller. There are a lot of internal (local) factors that amplify the issue with Japanese sets too. But yep - once supply outmatches demand this should (SHOULD) hopefully be over, much like what we're seeing with English now.

My girlfriend isn't really into pokemon that much, but she'll still "collect" the cute commons and uncommons and rares that I personally don't like. I have a binder of just the cool cards from sets I've opened of pokemon I like. There's ways to appreciate the cards without just worrying about the value. Appreciate the great content okjluv!!!

This was a great video jluv. You’ve given me the idea to start collecting from some artists! Yesterday I was sorting through my collection and found this karrablast, and I really liked the art so I sleeved it and put it in a toploader 🤣. The artists’ name is OOYAMA, and at first I couldn’t find any info on him then I found a wiki on him. He’s a pretty cool guy! I hope to collect his cards in English and in Japanese, but idk where to buy Japanese singles at a good price. Would eBay be a good place or a Japanese proxy website?

Two thing : 1. Why problem that fact if you can not "easily" pull out a card ? Limiting means a card will be more valuable what means the full hobby will be more exciting, plus more people will be join ! (because the card prices will go up) 2. I am looking forward to collecting the 25th anniversary set from the Japanese side however the price to get them will be expensive. I’d like to be able to collect both the English and Japanese side however if it is too expensive to obtain, I’ll stick with the English to which may be easier to obtain. this might mean that I will potentially lose out on getting certain items and I am not happy with that. I am predicting that these products will still be available into 2022. The current market feels different to when shiny star v came out last year.

For me I saw price creep with matchless fighter and I’ve basically stopped buying after I got my evee hero’s collectors box and two first release booster boxes of the same. Dealing with my Japanese dealer is impossible, He can be such an ass. Cancels order after order and jumps the price each time. And now you have my local game store charging 150$ per box for Japanese. I like collecting sealed products but fml I can’t afford this anymore. I quit! Screw this shit I’m done, I’m not having fun anymore jay…

Another idea between the ones you listed may be: "Just earn more money so you can spend more money". I know it's stupid and not that easy lol but most people don't even think about it, just try and get a promotion, a better job or think about selling cards online. I'm in the process of doing this myself since I've been priced out by my own country between all the customs or whatever damn it and I've literally not been buying cards for myself for a couple of months but after grading 9 cards I had lying around, somehow getting 9 tens (all Japanese) from a grading company here in Italy and getting $400 dollars in profit after shipping and eBay fees then I'd it's probably worth looking a bit more into it 🤔
