Seeing how much Sutan has grown up warms my heart! She was still very small back in 2019 when I saw her on Paolo in Tokyo's channel. Now look at her helping Moe in the kitchen! That purin looks so jiggly and tempting! When I have children someday, I want them to get some hands on experience in the kitchen before I ever did when I was 17.

Sutan is the best. I knew as soon as she had the wooden spoon in her hand she was going to taste it. That made me laugh hard, Kimono Mom you have done such a great job teaching her to be a wonderful little human being. I remember a couple years ago she barely spoke and now she is baking pudding! Time flies.

We have the same dish here in the Philippines called "leche flan". But instead of using whole eggs, we only use the egg yolks. But the rest of the process is the same. Can't wait to try the Japanese version ❤

Here in the USA (at least in New York, where I live), this dessert is called custard. With the sauce, it's called caramel custard, or flan. What we call pudding is made with milk, sugar, cornstarch (コーンスターチ), and flavorings, but no eggs. One of my favorites is rice pudding: pudding with cooked rice and vanilla added, and topped with cinnamon.

My mother never taught me how to cook so I made some secretly so she couldn't scold me haha! Mine didn't turn out as pretty but still it was delicious.

The Roman origin you speak of was a savoury dish, served with fish etc, however the sweet version of which we are talking - a creamy custard made with a caramel sauce was indeed an invention of the French.
