This video is amazing, I have watched this at least 8 times already and it never fails to impress me. このビデオは素晴らしいですが、私は少なくとも8回、すでにこれを見て、それが私を感動させる失敗することはありません。
かわいいとして、彼らはまだ、野生動物であることがあります。しかし、非常に尊敬。 (translation sence most people don't know it) as cute as they may be they are still wild animals. But highly respected

"Monkey sees, Monkey does...." Locals said originally other outdoor hot-spring bath they use, the monkeys began joining them, but they saw monkeys do poop in the water, so they made the pictured bath area just for the monkeys. They(monkeys) found the warm water soothing, especially in Winter. Folk tales some other part of Japan tells that people found monkeys bathing in hot-spring, so people began to use it......People sees, people does.
@DeliciosoChino they also secrete an oil from their hair that helps to keep their fur dry like most mammals. Its obviously a very useful tactic for them in such a climate.

No, you can't pet them. The reason that you can get quite close to them is actually because they know people don't pet them. Petting can easily be understood as an act of dominance.
