@@konstantinkleber8792 It's with the melting in the crucible. He melts the steel down with those powders (glass shards and graphite) in the furnace. After it's been melted, the different impurities divide over the material and as they crystallise as they are quenched, those patterns show up. It's basically how the original Damascus blades got their pattern. It wasn't pattern welding, this is the real deal.

@@nextlifeonearth this is not authentic wootz damascus, far from it. Its the very precise chemical composition and the way its heat treated is how you get real wootz damascus. watch al pendray and dr verhoven.

It's a good steel. Better steel than most katanas are made of. These balls must not deform. Look how hard it is to forge with a sledgehammer. People usually stuggle like that with a tool steel. There was a dude who forged some massive drill bits and without a press and powerhammer he would be still forging it today. I think high carbon steel like this will hold an edge better than many fancy steels used in the knife industry. My Chinese D2 Ganzo folder should be 61-62 HRC and I've got a feeling that it doesnt hold the edge as well as that rusty high carbon palette-knife I sharpened. It's pretty much stainless and the carbides are ok I guess. Still a good hard file will cut through most of your knives because the HRC is higher. Ballbearing steel has more than just iron and carbon in it. I dont like the taste carbon steel leaves on food but it's not D2 springs what's holding my car above the ground for 20 years
