David, I lived in Japan for about 4 years and the way you add soy sauce into the rice is very against Japanese custom. I have seen them take away the rice when you have added soy sauce into the rice, as if you made a terrible mistake! They revere the rice. You never add anything into it. Just a hint from a friend, trying to have your back.

Hey bud, when eating don't take you mouth to the plate take the plate to your mouth, japanese do it that way, its way better etiquette annnddd I almost had an heart attack when you had the sauce in the rice, like for REAL, just do that at home lol xD they will eventually take it away if they see that mess thinking u did a mistake and perhaps take it to heart, jus saying!!! ..
