Well, we usually drink it as shots - so we pour it into a small shot glass (about 25 ml, sometimes they are bigger), drink it quickly at once, swallow and then wash it down with juice, coca-cola etc. or we mix it into drinks like vodka and orange juice (which professionally is called a 'screwdriver'). That style of drinking you did - so 100ml bottle chased with a soda is usually what people do before going clubbing (called a 'before') or done by people who are already addicted to alcohol As to why people drink it? Well, it is kind of a communal thing - you cheers with everyone at a party/table. It's 40% so it will get you drunk quicker than let's say a beer or something and it's not carbonated, so it doesn't fill up your stomach as much. Why are people getting drunk? Various reasons - usually to let loose, because everything seems funnier in that intoxicated state etc (rational thinking, stress and all that stuff just switches off for a short time) Also it's worth mentioning that there are other variants of vodka - like cherry flavoured, raspberry flavoured (they are also a bit weaker, about 30-31% ABV) and not everybody likes vodka, some people enjoy highballs (orange juice and vodka is considered a highball drink) like whiskey+cola, gin&tonic, rum&cola (also called a Cuba Libre) or Mojito. But for the big, big parties like weddings it's usually vodka because it's just cheaper to buy when you need to do so in large quantities (sometimes you can buy whole boxes in wholesale stores or just normal ones when they are discounted)

I agree as a Polish with all that things. It's also worthy to mention that vodka tastes so much better chilled or even light frozen. You won't experience that awkward aftertaste. Moreover, vodka+pepper shot is a good medicine for cold, infections or even stomach pain

You have to taste Polish mead "Miód pitny": "czwórniak" semi dry, "trójniak" semi sweet, "dwójniak" sweet, "półtorak" (an elite Polish mead) very sweet. Also, you need to try a Polish honey beer "piwo ciemne na miodzie gryczanym".

If you tried plain vodka, I recommend trying some flavoured vodka for example black currant or cherry. They are sweeter. My family likes to add ice to the glass so its less strong.

This is not a classic Żubrówka. The classic one is slightly yellow, with bison grass floating inside. Hence the name of the vodka. It is not drunk alone only as an addition to cocktails. The two most popular cocktails with this vodka are: Szartotka (Apple pie) i Dewizjon 303 (Squadron 303). The first one consists of good-quality apple juice (no added sugar), vodka, ice (you can add lemon or lime slices). The second is a tribute to the legendary 303 Squadron airmen. They are considered the best airmen of the Second World War. This cocktail consists of: good non-sweet cider mixed with apple juice and Żubrówka vodka.

1. In Poland we usually drink vodka in shots, and between shots we usually drink some juice, or soda. So don't drink it like water, and pour it into 25 ml glass when you drink i 2. Vodka + cola is not so popular - if you like, you drink, and if you don't, you don't - simply :) 3. As some ppl suggested, we often drink flavored vodka - after a few shots plain vodka is boring 4. Most of us on the parties just bring they own drinks % , so that you can drink what you like most - beer, vodka, vine, whisky - you choose 5. This type of size is often called "małpka" - literally "monkey". 5,1 . Because it is small recently government decided that it encourage to drink more, as you can easily drink it whole on one try, so there is additional tax on it (if I recall correctly it concerns bottles to 100ml), so if you would like to buy more for any reason, it is more convenient to buy even 200ml. 6. When it comes to flavors, there ar many, but for sure the more popular are, lemon and cherry (this one as a type of drink/alkohol has it's own name - "wiśniówka" - from polish word for cherry - "wiśnie"), nuts 7. We never drink warm vodka - before drinking put it in the freezer or buy cold.
@Saito57G
@Saito57G 2 жыл бұрын
AD. 5.1 The tax you mentioned is for alcoholic beverages below 300ml (that's why some brands created a 330ml bottles to evade the tax). As to how high the tax is (or how it used to be, since I don't know if it changed with the inflation) - it used to be 25 PLN for every litre of 100% alcohol. What does that mean? So typical 100ml bottle (małpka) of plain 40% vodka is = 25 PLN * 0,4 (cause 40% alcohol) * 0,1 (cause it's only 0,1 of a litre) = +1 PLN on małpka/100ml bottle. Same way 200ml bottle of 40% vodka would be +2 PLN due to tax

@1 Soda or juice is a very bad choice to drink after vodka. It only makes you more drunk, more quickly. Only tea (no sugar!), water, or no drinking anything at all but just some food, preferably fat, like boczek, kiełbasa, słonina, pickled cucumbers etc. not much carbohydrates is important. @3 after few shots, people stop to carry what they drink, only if this has % is important.
@sylwiatime
@sylwiatime 2 жыл бұрын
LOL! It's not how we drink vodka in Poland. ;) Basically vodka is a social drink. People who want to chill out alone drink a glass of wine or beer. Vodka should be drunk very cold. Put it to freezer until its color becomes white and the liquid becomes oily. We drink vodka accompanied by certain foods i.e. everything that is sour like pickled cucumbers or mushrooms or fat like sausage. Bigos is a great example. Then you can drink vodka in shots all night and you still have fun till the morning. Only some people get very drunk. Most will dance and talk all night and not feel tired in the morning. And if they don't mix alcohol and don't smoke they might not be hangovered the next day. That's why vodka is primarily a party drink because you wouldn't last that long drinking beer or wine in large amounts.

If u like drinking at your own pace and don't like crowded places like clubs or pubs the third most popular alternative is probably a house party(that's why it's often loud at night - appropriately u should inform ur neighbours about it and try to tone it down at later hours, but not everyone does it) or when it's warmer an outdoor party on a beach or somewhere close to nature - it should suit u more and depending on the people u drink with it can be a bit louder with some music maybe even dance or just sitting discussing, joking, enjoying late night views etc.

Different vodkas have different flavors. There are people who don't recognized it, but it really feels like whether the vodka was made from potatoes, or from rye or wheat. Some are better suited to drinks than others. Flavored vodkas are fun to make by yourself with various fruits. You can try different fruits/herbs/nuts etc., check what proportions are best for you. My wife and I love Japanese wine - Choya. Everything we've tried from this company has been really good.

You took a long break between vodka and Pepsi! We drink vodka with one shot. In small glasses. Usually a whole glass at a time, sometimes half a glass. And then we drink Cola, juice or Pepsi from the second glass. And you have to eat something during this time. If you don't eat, you'll get drunk quickly :) We don't taste vodka slowly like wine. I like Finland vodka with cranberries the most. I also recommend a drink with vodka - Mad Dog. 15 ml of raspberry syrup, 3 drops of tabasco and 25 ml of vodka. Just remember - one shot!

Most of Poles don't drink vodka without some special occasion (of course for some people everything can be an occasion). Meeting new friend is also an occasion, so when foreigners keep being invited for vodka drinking on and on with new friends in Poland they sometimes get false impression Polish people do nothing more than drink vodka. But it is for them, because they are foreigners in Poland and that's special occasion:) Poles themselves don't invite one another for vodka drinking all the time, beer is the default alcohol of choice. And it is considered quite alarming if you like taste of clear vodka--it is not supposed to be liked, it is for cheering.

@tonyinbush9871
@tonyinbush9871 2 жыл бұрын
"Żubrówka" is not the best example of vodkas you could've choose from. It's one of the cheapest and the quality is poor, for not much more (about 5zloty gap in price) you can get better quality vodkas such as: "Wyborowa" which is rye vodka (rye spirits have more spicy/harsh taste in comparison to potato or wheat vodkas) "Luksusowa" which is in it's standard version potato destillate (it is mild and has more sweeter touch to it) *I prefer this one* And that's for good quality/affordable plain vodkas, ofcourse there are more but these are the most popular polish ones imho, the wheat destillates are mainly on the pricier side. For the flavoured ones the "Stock" has a nice series of various flavoured vodkas but you should not confuse this flavoured vodkas with the tincutures that are manufactured for example by "Soplica". Tinctures are more sweet and good for simple party drinks that are easy to made and tasty. You should try the combination of the "orzechówka" (hazelnut tincture) with the cold milk it really tastes like dessert

You should never try to "taste" vodka. You should just swallow it whole without keeping it in your mouth and then if you need to just wash it down with either juice or cola. For me the best "popita" (something to drink right after vodka) are these dense juices like (you can google "owoce świata tymbark") banana, mango, lime etc. as they have very strong taste that kills vodka. Also some people like it, but me personally I think vodka+something is not a drink and you shouldnt drink it like that. It tastes horrible and there is more to drink. I would much rather drink whiskey + cola than vodka with anything. Next time try polish vodka with some taste, for exmaple raspberry vodka. They are usually 20/30% and often dont require anything to drink after them as they taste quite ok. But the best thing that you just HAVE TO try at some point is homemade alcohol, and it's much much better than anything else (ofc. it has to be done in a good way, but most of the hand made alcohols in Poland that I have tried were accually really good). I know it's already been 7 months since the video, but maybe you still didnt knew that. Also I dont really like clubs and many of my friends dont like it as well, so it's not just you. Take care

If you want to try good traditional polish vodkas look for 'Okovita' in liquor stores, or if you want flavored ones go for 'nalewka' those are protected products so you will get good quality and real taste not mass produced like this trash in common bottles.

We dont drink vodka anymore because it is the russians invention. Try polish drinking miód, cider or good lager beer from Tyskie
