We will go from the very east to the very west of Russia and then to its capital, to see how people live in different parts of Russia. Let's make a research : what are the average salaries, how much people spend per month on food, renting an apartment, and other costs in Kamchatka, Kaliningrad and Moscow!

As an American who lives in a rural area, I find your videos fascinating. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and we were taught that Russians were our mortal enemies who would rain down nuclear bombs at will. Now as a 50 something grandma, I am finding that your people are very much like our people in many ways. We all want to live a comfortable life. :). Your country is amazingly beautiful, I would love to visit one day when there is peace. Thank you for sharing

Totally true, I live in Vračar Belgrade but from Liverpool, married Serb girl, and they're so like us. But having worked in Rostov, Serbs and Russians (average person) have zero idea about hiw the West works. We're not all friends, unfortunately. My hometown refuses an English identity, has closer historical ties with Ireland, Scotland has a Nationalist government, so does Wales, Northern Irelands assembly was won by pro united Irish. There's a whole county in South West UK called Cornwall with its own flag n lingo. The Western side of UK is Celtic not Anglo......I'd be here all day with examples. Peace n love from Beograd

Yeah, that would be great to move all over the world and visit and stay for a week. Even Russians coming and staying on a swap a home for two weeks or you pick the how long time to stay in USA. I love villages out in their country. I love the Kamchata in the east. Way more country, less people & roads & businesses. That's is called "Industry" in America. We don't live in the area of commerce. We live in residential areas for homes, apartments, no business families only for living not working. Except when you work from your home. Merry Christmas everyone especially in the Ukraine. I love all your beautiful outfits for the Santa Claus' he always looks so beautiful/handsome with all the hand sown beating on the hats especially. God bless Ukraine and all of Holy People of God thru Lord Jesus Christ Our Savior. Amen. 😇💖💟❣🙏🧓Me now at 65 years old, very disabled, but also very happy because I'm well-read. Knowing a lot keeps me safe and very happy. Peace & Merry Christmas to All & to All a Good Night.46,000 rubles a month? How much American Dollars is that amount? We can't compare & have no idea, Not a clue. Also all this talk of "Sanctions" ? What the hell are those? If it's something of Russia attacking people not attacking them? Then stop attacking or stealing or raping or whatever it is your country leaders are doing to harm innocent people with their families sitting in their homes doing TV before bedtime & work with school for kids tomorrow, you shouldn't just arbitarily blow them up in their homes. That's not never what a voted in gov't. would do to it's people that put them in power in the first place. BEHAVE & leave them alone thru the Holy Days Holidays get it. During my short visit to Russia, I got acquainted with the vast richness of Russian culture and hospitality. I was mesmerized to see the breathtaking architecture of Saint Petersburg. I fall deeply in love with the Gulf of Finland and Sosnovy Bor. The calmness of this little town hypnotized me, In Moscow, I was really fascinated by the greatness of Russian achievements. I know that it's not possible to experience Russia on a tightly scheduled tour and what I have experienced was a tiny fragment of what Russia truly is. Yeah, bro, it's very intriguing, especially considering that in countries with relatively high salaries correspondingly higher monthly spendings. Governments and businesses orginized things in such a way, that people in common earn only as mush as to pay for food, for rent, or for the mortgage in a best case, and continue to work
@khaiphamba5991
@khaiphamba5991 11 ай бұрын
@@user-ki3my8vx9j Yeah well actually we cannot entirely blame the governments. If a government it's rich, there are only two things that it can improve. One, the public infrastructure and services. And two, the salary of those who work in those areas, the public employees. Usually, these 2 things improve insignificantly simply because there is no magical jump in terms of economic growth of a country annually. So, for common people who work for the government, you can't expect a dream salary. As for the rest, that is the private area, as in "businesses" per your comments, well sadly, we can't blame them either. This is the only sector where you can improve your earning, but you have to be very hardworking or talented, or both. And as a business, of course it will try to squeeze you to the last drop to fill it pocket because... business. Russia is a developed country, but its GDP is not too impressive (as expected). Beside, the country is too large for its population. There are not many high population areas for the economy to take advantage of. Many even live in rural or remote parts of the country that are actually poor. Anyway, all I want to say it, I know that there are different parts of Russia with different living standards, I just did't expect to see many parts that are so familiar to the place where I live.

A nic. HI Eli, from Las Vegas!! I found your channel about 2 weeks ago because I was looking for up-close views of modern Moscow, like a city walk/tour style. My ancestors on my mother's side of the family are from Russia-I do not know which part. I think my grandmother's generation was the first to speak English. My mom told me that her grandparents only ever spoke Russian. Myself, I grew up near DC during the Cold War years and I remember the USSR's dissolution in 1991. I was in high school. But, I remember being even young and very curious about why we were taught that all Russians were "bad" in our media. You can imagine it was quite vexing to me since I knew WE weren't bad and that was our heritage as well. I always had the sense that Russians were "real" people, with all the same worries, love for their families, celebrating holidays, etc, just like American people. So, this is all to say that I have always been fascinated about your country and your culture. Since finding your channel, I have watched almost all of your videos except for 2 so far. Thank you SO MUCH for putting in all the work to do these. You do an excellent job and they're so interesting and really give an insight to the people and traditions of your country. One day I hope to get to visit, I don't know if that will happen, but I hope so. In the meantime, I really just can't get enough of your channel!!

This is a wonderful comment. I'm becoming more and more convinced every day that we are all the same. We have the same aspirations, we have the same fears, we love our family and friends equally, we love the same movies, music, shows... Many of us have the same background. Who ever said that we are different and should hate each other just because we were born in different territories? It's all so unimportant: our gender, age, religion, country. We are all just people and we all just want to live. It's sad that not many people can understand that we are not so different actually :'((

Maybe but I'd consider Moscow to have one of the strongest middle classes of any city I've see after living in Europe since 2009 and traveling the world extensively. Most average Russians have life in decent apartments, and have some money for new clothes, going out to dinners and entertainment. Most middle-class Russians manage to take at least 1 or 2 trips abroad every year. Even the very best restaurants in the city are accessible to people leaving on an average salary if they manage their money well but that's certainly not the case in lace like NYC and LA or London.

Nice to see what life is like in different regions of Russia and the difference it makes. Here in Finland my wife and i live 30km away from Helsinki. We own a house valued around 350€k but if you move 15 km away from Helsinki the same one would be 500-600k€ and if you move directly to Helsinki center, the same one would be over 1 million €. The difference what a few kilometres can make is amazing.

This 20-minute video provides an interesting overview of the economy from ordinary folk's perspective. Based on the inputs given, I deduce each region has their own local supply chain that utilise whatever resources within its territory. Only resources that are geographically impossible to have as well as complex machinery and its spare parts are imported from outside. And I bet my entire savings that railway is the primary mode of logistics for such cargo across the country (if not the only mode)! Hence the minimal variance for food cost across different regions and the reason why everything is more expensive in Kaliningrad compared to the rest of the country. Most probably rental is the biggest factor for the pricing variance. p/s: In all countries, the few very wealthy income earners can significantly distort the average income. Median income provides more accurate estimate that reflect the income of the ordinary masses. This is typical government behaviour all over the world. To show to their respective masses that they've done a good job. Despite that, I'm impressed with this level of performance considering that >10,000 types of sanctions are imposed on the Russian economy. This kind of resiliency is like flipping the middle finger to those who imposed the sanctions. At least, that's what I see from the outside

Thanks for the interesting video! Since we started our studies, a good friend and me planned to do a hitchhiking trip after finishing our studies through the former soviet territory including Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and heading toward Russia. I always wanted to experience the life in the countries that hadn´t been influenced by capitalism for so long. Unfortunately 2022 made it hard to follow this dream for "some reasons" so let´s hope the governments will conclude peace even though it will be a hard process. But beside our governments who may have tensions we are just human beings who are friendly in most of the cases regardless of whether we are from Russia, the US, Ukraine or Germany. So let´s pray for better days! Greetings from (east) Germany :)

Here's one extra thought. It is not for me to tell, how other people should live their life or what they like or dislike, but to help younger Russian audience to better understand (understanding is NOT the same as approval) the Western reaction to one very special operation, I say that in the West people do get judged according to what they tolerate. For example, if someone is NOT a pedophile itself/himself/herself, but the person tolerates pedophilia, the molesting of children, then in the West that person will get judged by others despite the fact that the person being judged does NOT molest children itself. With that context in mind, please draw Your own conclusion, how the attitude of some Russians looks from Western perspective and what that kind of judgement means in the longer term, like in years 2022 till 2080. I am NOT an Ukrainian. I am an Estonian, living in Estonia, which is part of the West. Thank You for reading my comment.

@fleshnbone187 I think by their own standards the person above is a vicious murderer condoning mass murder of innocent people, destruction of their homes and livelihood, mass slander... the worst kind of person really. I would also assume the person above approves the crimes/mass murder and starvation of people in Yemen, since the US/West supports Saudi Arabia. Hell, I guess by their own standards this poor Estonian guy/girl should already be executed several times over. LOL. Interesting how they can live with themselves and be so righteous at the same time.

I am Australian, so of course love my country just as you do yours. It’s unfortunate that most of what we hear about Russia is to do with Putin and of course lately about the invasion of Ukraine. In our heart’s I think all humans want to live a good, happy life, as freely as possible. I think we are very blessed for that here in Australia and it was very interesting to here about living conditions in various parts of Russia.

I accidentally stumbled upon your channel and it's quite interesting! Moscow has different salaries and dream salaries, because everyone lives in different parts of Moscow. In the center of Moscow, there are very high prices for food and apartments, the rich live there with high salaries, there are large companies that pay a lot. If you are a beginner or a simple worker, then he definitely lives in the Moscow region, where prices are 5 times lower, so 100,000 rubles are enough for people there for a comfortable stay.

I used to live in Anchorage, Alaska, which is across the Bering Sea from Kamchatka. The video from Kamchatka looks a lot like Alaska. Housing and Utilities are very expensive, but Alaskans make up for it by catching their dinner instead of buying it. Most people eat a lot of fish and game, berries (Fresh or Preserved). There's not much vegetable, but cabbage and potatoes grow pretty well there. The big goal in the fall is to get a moose, because that will feed a couple of families for most of the winter.

Eli, thanks a lot for your documentary. It is really helpful. I really appreciate your drive for equality and better lives of people in your homeland. Still, it seems to me that you harbour somewhat idealised view of the west. I would say that both salaries and costs here are higher, but, given the relative numbers you have provided, I do not think that average people in USA or even most of Europe are any less exploited than the people you interviewed. I'm not even talking about poorer places like most of asia or africa...
