The Arisaka is super underrated bro, that dust cover design is honestly genius and I'm surprised nobody else came up with that design. Best bolt cycle sound ever. English comment btw

Though that dust cover was often removed by the Japanese troops themselves, because it was noisy during action while Japanese relied on surprise and ambushes on jungle warfare during Pacific campaign. It was stated in this History Channel itself!

It is basically the Kar98 or Mauser C98 but chambered in nambu rounds, not that its a bad thing considering its inferior quality, especially the pistol cartridges 😬, but I do like the idea that the clips can be given to the person responsible with the squad automatic weapon in case they run out of munitions for suppression fire, it was genius, but at one point they decided they could be able to mount a bayonet on a type 11 which is dumb, overall arisaka firearms are a double edge sword quite to the contrary of the samurais principle of welding single bladed weapons

@@Etendard1708 That's a myth and is completely untrue! The bolt was part of the rifle, which was also part of the emperors property. Tampering with the emperors property was very illegal and one would face very serious consequences by doing so. There's no proof in pictures nor accounts of Japanese soldiers themselves removing the bolt. Ian from forgotten weapons himself has said that the arisaka rifles lacking the bolt cover was because all bolts was to be removed when bringing back to the US. Meaning that when someone reinstalled the bolts they most likely didn't bother attaching the bolt cover again.
Beautiful Type 100, they are extremely rare nowadays, only 20-30k were produced by '45.

actually the US army only issued Thompson submachine guns to Sergeants and such, and the germans also mostly used their K98 karbine, the MP40 submachine gun was only given to platoon leaders the first army to use large numbers of submachine guns was the Soviet Union which fielded entire units armed with the Ppsh41, which forced the germans to get as many of those as they could lay their hands on, since there was nowhere near enough MP40's

So there's a Japanese dub of this show, I had no idea. Also remember when the History Channel was about history?
I liked it just because it was uploaded in 2008 when KZbin wasn't cancer yet. Great find!

the arisaka rifle was shown in post war tests to have the strongest bolt action of any ww2 design, and it was combination of mauser features and japanese ideas.
Oh yeah in case your wondering what guns they are. 1st gun Arisaka Type 99. 2nd gun Type 100/44 due to the high rate of fire, the original Type 100 was 450 rpm. 3rd gun another Arisaka 4th gun Taisho 11, you can tell by the 6 Arisaka clips hopper fed into the gun. 5th gun Type 99 because of the decent rpm, NOT the type 97 LMG 6th gun Type 92 Machine gun, cause of its slow rpm 7th gun Type 89 Knee mortar.

It can happen to just about any gun. I have had jams in everything from a 1860 Henry to an AR15. Well, my old Ruger Mini-14 has yet to jam, but I'm sure it will some day. My Arisaka's have no problem feeding if I load them with good ammunition. They cycle about as smooth as my Mausers. Even my 30-40 Krags will jam if I try to use certain types of bullets in my reloads. (They hate HPBT bullets). Still, you are right. Jam = Fail Gun = you probably die in battle.

@lexmark136 It's the type 11. I read a book on Japanese weaposn a long time ago. I forget exactly how it works, but at the bottom of the hopper, there's an arm that pushes the 5 round stripper clips into the gun. How it eject the clips after every fifth round and lets the next one fall into place, I forget.
@FastEddie718 That's the Type 96 Nambu; they aimed the same way as on the British, Czech, and Canadian Bren LMGs. The sights were offset to the side of the magazine.
This Arisaka gun has its own pros and cons. The advantage is that it has a full cover to prevent dirt from clogging the chamber. But it's a disadvantage that wastes time. Slide the ammunition gun. thus causing jams
its hard to find an Arisaka with the dust cover, mum and monopod all together

@lexmark136 it is called the type 11. if i recall correctly it uses the same stripper clips that rifles use so that a rifleman could supply a machinegunner with ammunition. i presume that the stripperclips are dropped into the hopper at the left and are caught on a lip that then drags the entire stripper clip in and then it repeats. but it was complex and jammed frequently. hope i helped : D
