Japanese were Heartfelt when American Marine Corps Rescued Japanese Military From China After WW2
This story is about the rescue operation. US Marine Corps was supposed to go home after World War II ended, but they were sent to China during the Chinese civil war, which was a surprise. After the atomic bombs were dropped, Japan quickly gave up, ending the war. This kept the Marines from having to invade Japan, which would have been risky. Instead of going home, Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek asked them to help keep the peace and stop the spread of communism, so they were sent to China.
At first, there was hope for a peaceful settlement. General George C. Marshall was sent to mediate between the Nationalists and the Communists as a special representative. Things quickly got worse, though, and the Marines had to deal with a dangerous and complicated setting.
As the Marines got used to life in China, they saw poverty, corruption, and murder. Even though their original goal was to help Japanese people get back to their home country, they quickly learned how corrupt and violent Chiang's government really was. Being aware of this changed how they saw things; they started to wonder if it was right to back such a regime.
Fighting with communists turned into a regular occurrence, showing how powerful the communists were becoming and how hard it was for the Marines to keep things under control. Even though people tried to protect important infrastructure like trains, things kept getting worse.
The number of Marines in China dropped by a lot by 1946, when the 6th Marine Division was broken up. Japanese people continued to be sent back to their homes without any problems, even though many were afraid of the approaching communist forces.
In general, the Marines' time in China after the war was marked by doubt, disappointment, and the harsh facts of a war-torn China.

Of course the Japanese were happy, imagine if the Chinese would have been given their revenge for all the horrors

My Dad was with the IIIAC, he went to Tientsin, China. He was a Rifleman PFC in the 1st Marine Division, that`s all I know about that, he wouldn`t talk about the War. Have bunch of pic`s he took in China, and some souvenirs he brought back.

My stepfather was with the 5th Marines there in 1947. He got wounded in a skirmish and was discharged. Lucky, since otherwise he might have ended up at Chosin, 3 yrs later.

This was both written and narrated by AI. No writer and no voice actor were paid a wage for this creation. I, for one find this entire thing terrifying (I'm not exaggerating for effect). AI has barely started and it can do this. College students are turning in papers written by AI and it is difficult for the professors to weed them out. What is it going to evolve into in 10 or 20 years? Look at your cell phone - in 2000 only a third of Americans had one and it could basically do one thing - make phone calls. Now it has the sum total of all recorded human knowledge and can show it to you. One of the original "Old Men" of AI development has said that since the basic purpose of these AI creations is efficiency, he is very afraid that they will make THE basic obvious efficiency move of getting rid of the most troublesome inefficient part of the whole system -US!

Heartfelt is true. Watch "The Flying Tigers" that Gen Chenault commanded. This was the name that the Chinese had given to the American pilot team that help them during WW2 and willfully accepted by them too.

At first glance, I had assumed the marines were accepting surrendering Japanese soldiers. I was struck by their youthful faces. But being they are all still under arms I now would say, obviously, they're Chinese. That campaign bled both sides drastically.

Man, today I think what could have become of China if the Nationalist (ROC Chiang Kia Shek) had won the civil war of China and not had to flee to Formosa (now Taiwan) that is now a democracy and thriving economy. His son took over as leader and declared Taiwan a democracy. What a disappointment for mainland China. Thank you for the video and special thanks to our boys in the military service.

@@genespell4340 A definite tragedy for China but I don't see a connection to my comment if intended to be that. I am a born European American and my first job was bussing tables at a Chinese restaurant in early 1970's. The Chinese were and are very good people.

Thank you for an in depth look at how the transition occurred, many of us had no idea. I think people would like to hear about the time when the US and Russian forces engaged each other at the end of WWII, it was a heated and short battle but it did happen. As for the communist chinese forces, if the Chinese citizens won’t fight back for their freedom then they can deal, with the communists by themselves. Most don’t know that most non-western countries care less for individual freedom and require an iron fist to control them, otherwise chaos will take to the streets since fear is the only thing they’ll respect. As for corruption, both types of government are rife with corruption so it’s hard to say which is better in that category.
