Sorry to tell you this but those strawberries were actually a "cheap" rip off that's why it tasted bad. The good ones are way bigger and come in packages of 1. They are called shiroi houseki. They also taste kinda pinnaple ish but are really sweet and also taste like strawberry and not mushy at all. I think Only in japan channel made a video on that if you want to see more in depth what I mean.

I hear Japan has the best tasting grapes so I would totally love a video on that!!! One thing I know for sure is... Japanese grape flavored candy is 100% better than American Grape candy because whenever there's grape flavored American candy, I know it's just going to taste like purple. BUT whenever there's a variety of Japanese candies I always go for the grape because it tastes like actual fruit

I took a sociology class in high school and we did a unit on Japanese culture. I remember learning about ridiculously expensive fruits being sold. The Japanese have this idea of a "perfect fruit" like there is one "right" way for a fruit to look and appear. They are beautiful like in roundness and color and whatnot ("man made") but they do not taste good because they were plucked out before it was time for them to go. (i'm not saying this white strawberry is their ideal strawberry though -maybe more of fleeting beauty) But yeah, these fruits serve as gifts since Japan is big on gift-giving. Japan is more into the idea of fleeting, temporary beauty (tsunami, cherry blossoms) than permanent beauty. Closest example in Western terms would be like flowers. Flowers are beautiful at the moment but they die not long afterwards so why give them flowers when we know they're going to die?? bc they're pretty for the time being and that's what makes them beautiful in the eyes of Japanese culture -- their beauty is not permanent

Thank you for pointing this out. I wanted to say that just because you CAN purchase strawberries in all seasons of the year in many supermarkets does NOT mean there is no strawberry season! What it does mean is that you cannot rely on what you see in a supermarket to know if something is in season or not. You would want to learn the "in season" items from a farmers market, growing it yourself, or learn it from a book. There is most definitely a strawberry season and just know that when you buy "fresh" berries in winter, you are buying imported berries, or hydroponically grown berries, or you live down under.

Hey guys!! Here in Chile, we also have times of the year where certain fruits and vegetables are produced, depending on the climate and the area where you are (whether north or south). For example I am from the south, right now we are finishing the spring and we have available strawberries that come from the north of where I live (central Chile), so they are a bit more expensive (about 3USD per 500g in supermarkets or 1USD in local markets or "Ferias" for the same amount of fruit). In full strawberry season, prices may even be lower if they are produced in the same area where you live. On the taste, here the strawberries are sweet, but with a slight acid flavor that characterizes them. We also have native white strawberries, they are much smaller than those you show in the video, and on the taste they are more flat, but very aromatic. Sorry if my English isn't very good!! love you guys! :)

sheena valencia i think the square watermelon is not meant to be eaten. At least thats what i read and watched about lol. Could be wrong :> theyre supposedly grown for decoration purposes i think. They're expensive cuz they're difficult to grow, just like these white strawberries. Reminds me of blue roses. You can't grow them organically (not that I know of at least) so they've been given the meaning of unattainable and mysterious~

Hey guys so just so you know the normal strawberries you got are the tochiotome brand and they are known for being the most acidic of the brand name strawberries in Japan and are meant to have that tartness. Other strawberries like Amaou are much sweeter, in case you like super sweet strawberries.

In Canada, strawberries from the united states are between 2,50 and 5$ and if you buy local ones, they are much smaller but come in a slightly bigger box for about 5$

When I was a little girl, my grandmother could never figure out why she had so few strawberries out of her strawberry patch. Apparently she never saw me sit down in the middle of it, and eat everything within reach before getting up and moving to a new spot. Nothing beats strawberries warm from the sun that you just picked.

As someone with marketing experience for major retail supermarkets, I can confirm that placing crazy high price on fruits is a marketing technique to appeal to customers seeking "premium" products when in reality it's nothing THAT special. But there are some amazinggg premium fruits out there :)

白イチゴは作成にかなりお金が掛かるし一応あれで食べられるってことで珍しいから高いんだよ 確かに普通のイチゴの方が美味しいと思う... A white strawberry is expensive because it costs a lot of money and it is unusual to be able to eat it at the time, so it's expensive I certainly think that ordinary strawberries are delicious ...

Oh another thing the reason why white strawberries tasty aweful is because colour of certain fruits can actually tell you their flavours and sweetness or bitterness, for example clear yellow bananas have a very week tasteless flavour where in as if you buy a banana where the skin is nearly all doted with black and it looks like the banana has gonne bad means that the banana is actually at it's best quality and super sweet, red banana's are awesome when you fry them, we also got tiny bananas that are called apple banana cause they taste like banana mixed with apple, super red strawberries are super juicy and sweet, white lighted red strawberries are a bit sour and tasteless. Red orange is super sweet so sweet that I don't really like so I prefer super orange orange lol I mean when orange has a very strong orange colour lol and that's perfect to make juices, lime has a stronger sour taste than lemon which has kind of week bitter taste.

I am not an expert or anything but I realized the differences on flavours when I lived in Ireland where all the fruits where imported, so yeah alot of fruits don't taste like whats suppose to taste do to the products they put on them for them to last or when imported so it will be better if you find a farm in Japan where you can buy your fruits and vegetables cause they won't have as many products on them or find a farm that is 100% organic

Simon and Martina Idk if you already know, but apparently white strawberries are deemed as very sweet and rich to the Japanese. Many of them say that the reason it is expensive is because of how the strawberries are cross-breeded traditionally and not genetically modified. I did a mini research on this a long time ago and I remember it. When I was younger, I was excited to try these. But now I am a little hesitant :/

A quick google-search gave me those infos: "... and they are available almost anytime throughout the year, although the best season is from January to March." I'm also used to Stawberries in summer (I'm from Germany...) and as far as I know (at least from staying a year in Korea...), the coldest month is around february... I thought it was kinda similar in Japan. Strange....
