If you plant the seeds you would get the mother or the father of that melon. Which only has half of the characteristics and will most likely be a sub-normal cantoulope that isn't worth growing. Pretty much everything besides GMO is gonna be hybridization and you won't get the fruit you want by planting the seeds.

Your comment about Ehime orange at 6:21 gives me tremendous joy. I grew up in an orange farming family in Ehime (now living in Canada). Did you guys made a video about orange picking? Fruits grown in Japan are expensive because it is a lot of work to grow them on steep hills. Since it's impossible to compete against cheap imports, farmers aim for high quality instead. You also are paying for craftsmanship and artistry. I grew up eating scarred oranges not good enough to sell, but amazingly tasty. Unfortunately, orange farming is disappearing from my village because farmers are getting too old...

Hi, I am a Premier Melon Specialist (PMS) , and that melon is called a 'Cucumis Melo' from the family of 'Cucurbitaceae' with a NCBI genome ID of over 10000 (precisely 10697), which particularly is a Muskmelon.The reason why a generous Muskmelon is more expensive is because it is simply more difficult to cultivate (Temperature wise especially in Japan), which means there are only a few experts, like myself, who are good at babysitting these sexy musks, thus I shall be payed more. I will now excuse myself.

Wow! Even the regular one is so expensive^^ I've never had a melon that looks like that. I would love to taste it. in France we have a few different types, but The only one I ever tasted (and the most common one) is round and the inside is yellow/orange/peach/apricot colored. no green. And it taste very sweet (very very sweet) when it's rip and it's very juicy. Some people eat it with red porto inside and what we call "jambon cru" (raw ham...but it's I guess a bit like a beef jerky but in ham version. not sure, caus' I've never tasted beef jerky, but the colour's similar). I prefer it cut in half with a big spoon ! :D ^^ Thank you for this video! I still can't believe the price of this melon, though! They probably are growing with classical music, hot bath, massages, and people cuddle them and read them bed-time stories before bed. For this price I hope they also each have their own PlayStation with a Dolby surround sound system, too! ^^

Also I'm horrified that normal melons in Japan are $10, particularly since I live in Scotland where I walk down to the local supermarket and any whole melon (honeydew, watermelon, cantaloupe, or piel de sapro) are £2 at their highest price, quite easily £1 at the moment since it's summer!

in gardening, the seeds aren't going to be identical or better than the parent also high chance it's going to be a different variety
@SakuraiKunLikes7 жыл бұрын
Planting from seeds will always result a bit different to the parent fruit, so for consistency they either propagate it, use heirloom varieties or genetically modified the seeds they plant.
@Blaaahhhhhhhh-z3p7 жыл бұрын
SakuraiKunLikes how do you grow something the same way as the seed or the fruit you got to begin with? serious question not joke. I'm trying or really I want to grow rambutan
@DQABlack7 жыл бұрын
I don't know about rambutan specifically, you'd probably have to look more into propagation methods, but for other plants that I'm used to you have to take a full piece from the actual parent plant and plant it somewhere else. For example, taking a branch with really great produce from an apple tree and graft it, with mint cut off a nice shoot and put it in water and let the shoot grow, or with strawberries let their runners take hold instead of planting by seed. If you find some other method like those for propagating your rambutan rather than with seeds that'd be what you want to try. You might be able to get closer to what you want if you pollinate your plants by hand, but even then you are still more likely to get variants.

Natasha Burdette If you can, buy produce from road side markets. Not only is is cheaper, the money goes straight to that farmer, and it is so much better. They allow the produce to ripen on the vine, instead of picking it green and gassing it to speed the ripening. Some will let you taste the produce before buying it.

Natasha Burdette I'm sorry that you haven't had a good honeydew melon in America - I get them in mid to late summer at my local farmers' market for $2 - $3 and they are superb (especially chilled with a little lime juice squeezed over them)! A bilge is actually a part of a boat that collects water. The water in there ends up really gross and mixed with other stuff like motor oil. Dish water is probably less gross than bilge water.

avg price per dish at coco ichi is about 800 yen. they could've gone about 9 times!
@TheShadowChesireCat7 жыл бұрын
That's average price, and if you've watched their other vids, you know they like to add things to their curry. Cutlets, eggs and mushrooms are an add on cost per item.

You ate it too much early! Its peak ripeness is June 27(2:25) ;(

Siddhattha Gotama 2 days isn't really that big of a difference.

Sapphire Otaku youd think.. but 2 days for things like bananas or avacados can mean not ripe or on the verge of rotting ripe

Ca Ke Very true, I bought some bananas yesterday and it taste a bit sour on that day, then today I ate another one and it taste sweet without the sour aftertaste.
@jmiquelmb7 жыл бұрын
SakuraiKunLikes Yep. Bananas taste better once it seems like they're a bit past their prime but really aren't. Also, just like avocados, they take much longer to get bad if you put them in the fridge once they are perfect

Oh that was so funny, thank you for the smile. I'm sad to say this month was really bleh for me, struggling with weight sucks most of the joy out of things. :(

I know how you feel. (Martina here) I put on 7 more pounds visiting Canada. Sigh. I'm struggling to keep off the weight, the more overweight I am the more stress I put on my knees/ankles etc. But now I can't exercise due to my EDS getting worse, so it feels like a really hopeless cycle. However, rather than falling further into a hopeless mindset I try to spend time looking up low calorie recipes that are yummy (because I just hate dumb boring salads) and I'm learning how to cook with things like coconut flour and filling vegetable recipes that taste good. For lunch today I made ground chicken rice paper wraps with tons of lettuce, sprouts, shredded carrots, and cilantro. It replaces bread and fills me up! I like drinking "lumpies" which are blended spinach, lemon, apple, ginger and some water. The extra fibre from the fruits/veggies fills me up between meals. DON'T GIVE UP!! Remember that I am struggling with you! If you find any great recipes, feel free to send me an email :)

Simon and Martina I don't know what you can eat or not but I'm gf and find that oats are so versatile! I use rice flour a lot but it's expensive so Ive found using oats you can put them in the blender for a min n make oat flour!! it has a great texture esp if you do half rice half oat. I can't have soy n my body doesn't seem to like coconut so it's hard but it seems you've found some great ideas!! 😀👍 lately w the heat I've been loving fruit smoothies!! though I dnt think I could use a $140 melon!! 😱 lol thanks for the great video n new ideas for my diet! good luck to you and Hoigwai in losing and keeping off the weight! I'm really trying hard myself but it's so hard w having w lot of chronic illnesses n pain n it's hard to even stand or walk. but your comment was encouraging so thank you!!

I am now trying my seemingly billionth variation, only one meal a day. Low carb (carbs really make me feel awful), I tried lots of small meals and no good. Much like your EDS this has been a fight for me since I was about 11. My average calories a day is for the last 5 months is 1346 per day and I still gain weight. I've had many many tests to to figure out why unless I absolutely starve I gain weight. Nothing, they say everything is normal and yet I gain. So I keep trying to kick my body over into burning fat rather than storing it. I will keep struggling along with you. Thank you very much for your support it means a lot to me and your videos mean the world to my mental state, smiling doesn't come that often but always with you two. 8)
In England haha you can get a melon for less than £1 and it has flavour and it's sweet 😂

I planted squash from seeds I got out of a grocery store squash and it worked just fine. Mellon seeds are big like squash seeds so the seedling gets a big head start, making it easier to grow. Its also ideal for people who don't have huge garden space because the vines will creep around to gather sunlight, you could hang a plant pot for example.

lilwiz1213 They never specified which kind of melon it was. And a honeydew melon is greenish white with a smooth exterior. Plus the description box calls it a "musk melon". I wonder, though, what a honeydew melon would taste like in Japan, bc it tastes like water where I live (Portland, Oregon)
@OriginalMouseketeer7 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's a golden cantaloupe. Never knew they existed until a recent trip to Sams Club.
