Amazing Woodworking Techniques that Japanese carpenters do in joining wood. In the manufacture of construction, there are those who prioritize beauty and maximize strength, namely the combination of art with the skills of carpenters in creating extraordinary things. This angled technique is a technique of connecting wood that is interlocked. I will show how the wood connection technique in Japan that I do using a chisel. This technique is great for joining wood to posts. I work in the traditional way. I did this work with a tool you will know is incredibly easy to understand.

Again, that's good looking, but isn't it weaker than a regular tenon in every direction except rotation?

This is the mortise and tenon structure invented by our Chinese. The earliest record of these structures appears in The Kaogong Ji Tu in the Rites of Zhou. Later books on architectural engineering, such as Luoyang Jialan Ji, Wood Classic, Zaofa Fa and Tiangong Kaiwu, have inherited this structural characteristic. It wasn't invented by the Japanese.
