It's not often that Shabani does things like that. Clearly, he was making a point to his wife. I think he reminded her of her place because he fully knows that Kiyomasa and Ai are much more loyal to Nene. He's an intelligent enough gorilla to understand that he needs to reassert his leadership role over her.

He is the silverback he has a right too! That's how it works in gorilla world. Nene knows it aswell, that's why she didn't kick up a fuss. Nene can go get more leaves no problem. There is no need to use fowl towards Shabani. That is a natural behaviour of gorillas. He is doing nothing wrong.
