I just got an old one of these Minoltina-S cameras working, and then found this video. It's REALLY nice! The short focus throw and bright rangefinder patch are super quick and fun to use, and it's a really nice lens! It actually has a really small and nicely-designed ever ready case too and the whole package is very small and light.

Compact and high quality fit and finish with the Rokkor 40mm f1.8, it’s no wonder why Leica chose Minolta to partner with for their R-series SLRs and Leica CL rangefinder development. Minolta had an immense amount of experience building quality rangefinders. Now prices will skyrocket!

Just picked one of these up at an thrift, currently getting its shutter fixed...can't wait to get it back and shoot with it! But yeah the film advance lever is super smooth and everything is just very nice and intuitive with this camera. I'm tempted to get another as a backup lol

Patrick Pohler Look for the other Rangefinders by Minolta, they made lots all high quality shooters with great Rokkors. The ALS, the AL-E, the little brother Minoltina P of course. The space age, Minolta Electro Shot, such awesomeness by Minolta.

I just purchased the AL-S variant. It cleaned up nicely, but the beam splitter is shot, I think. I can barely see the frame lines or patch. Do you know of a good donor beam splitter?

Hi, do you know anything about the minolta ALS? Not the Minoltina AL-S just ALS. I recently acquired one and I'm wondering if it's possible to get the meter repaired. Info online is very minimal and it seems to be a rare minolta. Thanks!

Where does battery go/ do you need battery adapter?

This camera has a selenium light meter which is light powered, it does not need a battery.

How hard to fix if shutter won't open?

It depends on how the shutter is stuck. Sometimes it is just oil on the shutter blades, and this can be cleaned up without a lot of disassembly, other times it is the shutter or winding mechanism itself, which can be much harder to fix. Most of the time the issue is oil on the shutter blades, and getting it free is roughly the same in in my video on the repairing the Hi Matic 7 or 9.
