Jaquet droz un genio relojero . Aún hoy día a pesar de que hay tanta tecnología a nuestro alrededor , me quedo asombrado como es que una persona alrededor de 200 años atrás pudo construir un aparato tan sofisticadamente complicado y preciso . Mi más grande respeto y admiración a este gran genio . Una verdadera obra de arte .

A fantastic piece of mechanical ingenuity, a less than perfect demonstration of its beauty and performance. The camera angle puts the main point of interest, pen and paper, at an angle that does not show the writing and puts (uncomfortable) people in the frame. The manual changes of lines made by the presenter are NOT necessary during its normal performance. In other words, leave the back movement explanation as is then wind it up and talk while it does the writing.

Il est vraiment imperturbable, le monde pourrait bien lui tomber sur la tête qu'il n'en serait même pas perturbé ! mais quand on voit ce qu'il a dans le Q, on comprend qu'il est vraiment adapté à son poste. If he machined every part himself (which he may have done, I don't know) then I imagine it wouldn't have been _too_ expensive to make, just lots of time involved. Of course though, the quality, the precision, and novelty would've made it very valuable indeed! Posh toys for rich kids/families... I imagine it would've cost relative to today - £300-£500? Expensive, yes, but just say, if you were a successful business owner then (as now), you probably could've afforded it. (I'm totally guessing of course! Out of reach for most dirt-poor families, though middle-class shop owners probably could've afforded one. Upper/aristocratic classes - no problem.)
