@@nugs5967 They weren't the Blink 182 brand of Pop punk, but they definitely were a poppier punk than the other punk bands of that time. It's most apparent on Dookie, and kinda shows through on Kerplunk... But their songs absolutely were designed for radio play since they started to get recognized. You can tell by the clean-er (in comparison to other punk bands of the time) production, the simple song structures, and the songs are very melodically driven. Most punk of the time was very shouty, very fast and aggressive, rather short songs, not much Melody to be found, etc. Not to say this is bad, I quite like this, but this just isn't good for radio. And that's what makes even early Green Day, Pop Punk. It was punk music designed to be... Popular.
