I've got a mod for Half-Life that's really unique and from what I know, hasn't been covered yet that I think would be a great mod to try out. It's called Half-Life Invasion. It's like a sort of continuation of the ending of Half Life 1, where Freeman is saved last second before getting teleported "to the battle he has no chance of winning" This mod adds a lot of stuff and changes a lot of things. It has new weapons, previously existing weapons have new skins, reload animations, and changes to their stats. (MP5 for example holds 30 rounds instead of 50) This mod also adds bullet penetration, dismemberment, improved special effects, they even made it so that the guns kill much quicker and made headshots much more lethal. This mod also treats batteries and medkits differently where you can store them for times you need them where you can press a button to use them. This mod also boasts a new armor system where specific parts can get damaged and effect how how much damage you take to that limb (for example if the arm is damaged but the rest of the body isn't, you will only take increased damage to that arm.) There's plenty of other stuff, but I want you to find out yourself in case you want to try it out. Keep in mind that it's difficult and it's in a different language. There should be an option to change it so that there's English subtitles tho. Also, you should make some changes to the key bindings when you first start it as they are a bit crap.

The Stalin Subway doesn't really deserve to be mentioned alongside the others. Especially Red Veil with it's broken difficulty is just painful. But You are empty is pretty good for how little known it is.

Must have had the perfect Windows 7 AMD rig in 2015 because I played the first Stalin Subway with zero crashes. It's just pure unadulterated jank held together with ridiculous gibs, stiff action-figure ragdolls and a broken bunny-hop mechanic. The first also had far more guns, enemies and level variety lol. Can't remember if it was the first or the second game because the dude you Escort in Red Veil is the main protagonist of the first Stalin Subway and just outright declares marriage to one of the female side-characters out of nowhere with no context or prior history of romantic interest as the final spoken word in the game.

I first saw this game from an old youtuber who was playing bad PC games to introduce them. During the car ride mission there is a strong chance that the cars do not spawn fully, just the wheels. That way you are chased by a set of wheels and you cannot shoot them so the wheels will keep killing you. Also the bullets ricochet off from metal surfaces so if you try to hide from that insane barrage the NPCs lay down on you, try to pick a spot with not many metal surfaces or you can still get hit.

Yeah, the first game has a chase sequence where your little train is being followed by a similar one with a driver and two KGB-people shooting at the player. They would spawn in random combinations when the game was actually managing to kind of load semi-properly. I had one instance where there was simply nobody in there, making the sequence unbeatable :D

Wow, that's really a struggle to go through. Quite honestly, I don't know why the games tend to crash in your computer. So, out of curiosity, I decided like a few weeks ago to play test the games to see if they work in my computer. Took a little while to load which is like 5 minutes for the first game whereas the second game just straight up loads up for about a few seconds. So, in the first game, besides the options text and subtitles being messed up, the rest of the game works fine in my computer. For the second game, I have no issues whatsoever like no crashes or text messed up. Now, there's one note I want to bring up, your computer is like a 3080, my computer is Windows Bootcamp (in Windows 10 by the way) which is in my iMac that has 90 GB in storage. Which brings me to think, "you're telling me these two games work in my Windows Bootcamp which has average capabilities whereas the 3080 computer which has tons of technical capabilities tends to not work? What!?" Yeah, I was dumbfounded honestly. I don't know what to make of this. For my opinion about these games, to me they're pretty mediocre as whole, they're not amazing, but not the worst either. I just didn't expect that regarding your analysis video of these two games of what makes them not good is because they tend to crash in your computer. Wow, I'm sorry that you had to go through that experience. I'm not even sure what to say at this point, let me what you think about this.

As you see, the more modern system is, the more unstable it will be. Your computer is by storage size very old and therefore more stable to be played on. I think he could for example try forcing compatibility and limit FPS to 30 or 60 to have a more stable experience, but the crashes will be inevitable without a lot of work put into it and even then it will probably crash sometimes.

Interestingly enough, my storage size isn’t that old, it’s been around for like 1-2 years, like I said earlier, this is from Windows Bootcamp which I’m using windows 10 version that is in my iMac. I mean if you’re referring to the entire storage drive which is the iMac itself alongside bootcamp as well (for I have to partition the size of drive to make way for the windows 10 bootcamp to work) as very old since I have the iMac since 2016 which is like 7 years, in that case……. Yeah, that’s probably the case then. Anyways, thanks for sharing the info with me, I appreciated it.

I really wish I could get this game to work again, it is absolutely insane stuff for good and bad reasons. One of my favourite bugs is how the sniper rifle and the rocket launcher use the same ammo, resulting in an amazing bug where occasionally the sniper would shoot rockets, and vice versa. The story is utterly incomprehensible and the gameplay is like half life on a full bottle of vodka.

What if you tried running it using a Windows XP virtual machine? That could trick the game into thinking you had an older pc and would stop it crashing as much. I've heard that works for some older games.

Virtual machines can't really handle hardware accelerated graphics though, which is always a problem. At least not in hypervisors such as VirtualBox.

Early high school I bought a beefy laptop on sale. 12gb ddr3, i7, 1tb hdd, 17in screen. Not a gaming machine but I knew I could getaway w/integrated graphics for what I wanted to play. I'd browse abandonment sites all day and remember finding footage of this game. Iirc I downloaded it, couldn't get it running, and deleted it. This was over 10yrs ago and your video has reminded me.

Red Veil was really bad. It is only 90 minutes long. But well, next to the enemies that fell from the room, this game is notirous known for the invisible cars in the chase mission, which you can not destroy, but they can destroy you. Had to quick save/load through this passage back then, because the cars maybe appear in another reload. The Stalin Subway was much better actually. Even it is not a very good game, but well, it was average at least.

I remember playing Stalin Subway a few years ago, and despite the game running like ass, and having ridiculous rendering problems, i had a great deal of fun with it. it's not a good game by any means, but it's not the worst thing i've played either. it was the kinda game that's hilariously bad and you have fun with it because of its problems.

That's very true. And it wasn't all bad. Shooting SMGs at short range was ok and there was one section which was just some navigation without enemies. The game could have need a little more variety like that. But in the end one reason why I finished the game was definitely just how broken the whole thing was and also how odd the story is.

I played it when I was a kid, I bought it back in 2013 for 10CZK with Czech dubbing. Honestly... I kinda like the first game even if it's a hell to start on modern PC, it's janky etc... But Red Veil? It just sucks, simply sucks, the first game is somewhat competent and entertaining but this... nah. I hate it. The Red Veil is best explained as "We have The Stalin Subway at home."

Probably useless for this instance anymore but generally speaking unskipable cutscenes that have to be in place sometimes can be replaced with a dummy video of under a second. This kind of fix often works on modern games so might be worth a try.

I honestly enjoy Subway a bit but Red Veil is awful, ( was lucky with crashes though.) Red Veil makes alot of awful gameplay changes, such as dying faster, removing weapons and not rewarding exploration at all. Still waiting for Commandos Strike Force, since Hour of Victory copied it.

Haven't played it, although heard of it many times. Hear people defend this title and i have no idea why. Others hate it with a passion Wich seems like a normal reaction. I would recommend using windows xp for this title. I bet the game hates the newer drivers.

Well, the first game is the favourite cheesy shooter of mine. The second one is complete garbage. You can't really make justice, if you only played the second one. How they managed to fuck up the second game this bad, is beyond me. The game definitely works on linux with wine. (I play it regularly, on my older linux laptop, so trust me) Probably dxvk helps as well. Probably I can make it run mac as well.

I always cap old games at 60fps max. This is just how this game is. You're probably thinking of the first game and not the sequel.

I remember having so much problem running this with a nvidia card that i had to switch to my onboard intel hd 4400 and the game behaved much better. On windows 10 and above this piece of shit probably need a compatiblity layer like DxWnd to help it runs

Yeah, when I recently replayed Cryostasis I had massive lag and it turns out the easiest solution is just to force it to run at 30 fps.

@@RedHazeCh Yeah there are a ton of random regressions for dx9 and earlier on Nvidia Turing and newer gpus (gtx16/rtx20+). There are quite a few games that are borked. DXVK on Windows sometimes works around this, but using Wine on Linux with dxvk (or just use proton) has the best compatibility with older games like this.
