I gotta agree with some of Shaheen’s criticisms though. Like he looks cool, but he’s just generic serious guy in a series where other characters do the serious guy schtick better. He’s supposed to be super acrobatic in a series where everyone is acrobatic. His surfboard move is the only really cool standout he has, other than that he just feels like generic uninspired middle eastern representation. I saw another comment that said Shaheen feels like a teacher gave a student a task to make an arabic character and the student did the bare minimum required to pass. Only furthered by the fact that Rashid is a much more fun representation of a similar archetype.

@@akilcharles3473 Here I actually need to disagree with you. All three examples there are much more interesting than Shaheen. Lars may be boring in terms of personality, but the dude dresses like an anime superhero and uses his dad's powers to act like one. Raven has the entire personality of "cyborg ninja" which would be boring if it weren't still underutilized. Then Kazuya is anime Hitler. I just can't find an anime devil man that wants to structure a world under social darwinism all that uninteresting. Even Ryu, boring as he is, got a touch up in SF 6 that really fleshes out what it means to be fully immersed in the spirit of fighting as communication with the world. Shaheen just, does nothing. I can't glean anything off him at a glance. I don't say this because I WANT to dislike Shaheen. I want an interesting middle eastern rep. I was excited to see what they did with him for the 8th installment. I was really hoping to like him. But it just didn't happen. Just plain old bread and mayo Shaheen.

I'm so happy that you made a video of Shaheen, even if it didn't felt as up to quality as your other videos. I'll admit, I was one of the person who forgot about Shaheen too when he was in 7, but after he was revealed in Gamespot. I couldn't help but like his design, and it made me want to play the character. Although he isn't as fun as my main Miguel or as cool as him. I still liked his simple gameplay, and liked watching him. When his trailer eventually came out I was very excited and realized how much of a glow up he got. Which made me all the more excited to watch him in tournaments. I may not be able to play the game rn, but I definitely want to play him because of how cool he have gotten, and people recognizing him makes me all the more gleeful at how much he improved. Let's hope he has a better personality in 9, and have a nice day!

In order to be female in Tekken, the character has to be a scantily clad doll. Women aren't allowed to be publicly be that in Saudi Arabia. Hell, in order for an Arabic woman to even be in this game they had to hide her nationality(Zafina). Ain't no way a gender swapped Shaheen would be allowed to exist in Tekken, without potentially pissing an entire government off

While Shaheen's play style is neat, he's just so bland from a design perspective. It almost comes across as a Saudi Prince money-sponsored self-insert character that they have no clue what to do with. If that is precisely what Shaheen is (which I do doubt), I mean then I guess I'm happy that said Saudi Prince got their wish through. But in a game where you have biker one punch man, Bear 'lectricities, the simple bear 'lectricities - forget about your parries and your heat, a woman with a demon locked in her hand and a luchadore wrestler that speaks only in Jaguar - Shaheen certainly comes across as super bland. Honestly, if they made him somewhat bland and repressed but let out just a playful "Yahoo!" or something when doing the skating moves on people to display that he's actually playful and enjoys skateboarding or that he just has a more playful/fun-loving side to him would be a small thing but helpful thing in making him come across as just "Stoic Middle East Male".

Shaheen is boring looking in a number of aspects, presentation, move set, visuals, behavior, personality and story. Shaheen specially drops the ball with story, while a lot of Tekken characters outside the Mishimas have been underutilized and wasted in this department the only thing Shaheen has going on is that he’s a good guy avenging he’s dead friend (this is literary all of Shaheen’s lore).

In Gigasthiccas's chat earlier today and we were basically talking about this same thing: the most direct comparison character-wise is Lee who has a fairly unique identity in that literally everything he does is incredibly difficult to do consistently and he's a very flamboyant character, and then Shaheen does very similar things but he's got less execution and just "I'm middle-eastern man". Compare him to a character like Rashid and it's night and day

Oh man I love Shaheen from the Iron Fists! I love killing people by using the same five moves and ending combo with the slide! I love playing a character that has no relevance to the actual story or connection to any of the important characters! But seriously the guy is mad basic is boring, but at least you can learn fundamentals of the game. Played him a lot before switching to Armor King in T7 and a lot of what I learned with Shaheen still applied to AMK with some modification.

Shaheen is not boring nor basic at all He’s one of the absolute funnest characters to play in this game One of the few characters who’s movelist links so well with each other without any bloat. He’s got sick mind games & combos off his stance, cancels, insane full crouch game in a game where it’s dangerous to duck and has counter hits and just frames He’s a unique in these ways from the rest of the roster and that’s why he’s awesome
