I recently stumbled upon a graph that compared the average IQ of fans in relation to the music they liked. Jars of Clay was one of the fan bases studied and the average IQ for its fans was on the high end of the spectrum in comparison to many other artists in different genres. So with that, feel flattered. Artists such as Wiz Kahlifa had fan bases with extremely low average IQ scores. The amount of views Wiz gets verses Jars of clay show you that there are a large amount of stupid people listening to stupid music. I think the obvious is that Jars of clay get much less views because there are much less people that can truly value and comprehend their music..

Jan Kriegel They were huge in the mid-late 90's, almost as big as DC Talk was. Their first album sold 2 million copies and their second album (with this song) sold 1.6 million. That is phenomenal for a Christian rock band, most of which never even see an album of theirs sell Gold. Their popularity fizzled out over the years though because they chose to go the experimental route rather than just keep making songs that sound like "Flood" over and over. That is why they don't get many views nowadays, but they are still together and God is still making beautiful, thought-provoking music through them, and that is what matters.

I was raised in a fundamentalist household and never was convinced in the existence of supernatural entities, but when I was a teenager, I was only allowed to listen to Christian music, and I tried to make the best of that lol, it was rough. I saw Jars Of Clay a few times, same as Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline. I even remember this one band called "Mayfair Laundry" that was pretty ok. I remember when I saw the OC Supertones, and they started with that Metallica riff, I was very confused, looking around to see if anyone even knew or cared that Supertones were playing the "Devil's music" lol. I do agree though, despite the cringe lyrics, and the deceitful way that Christian bands try to trick people into thinking their music isn't based on theism, Jars Of Clay was a pretty good band, especially live. This song particularly was one of my favorites. I am so glad that my son is allowed to listen whatever he likes, and that he doesn't have to live in a fascistically theocratic household, so he can have internal freedom to be who he wants, and think what he thinks without his parent trying to control his interpersonal boundaries, whilst having zero system of their own for logic, and deductive reasoning.

Why get mad at jesus? If he was he real wouldn't matter because he's dead now. There's no reason for me to believe any of that.

So at one time you used to believe that Jesus was real and something changed your mind? Were you a child when you first believed in him or were you older? I am very interested to see why people leave the Christian faith. Thx

Van PastorMan I was saved at 15. was a Christian for about 10, 12 years. I started to see things differently. nothing bad happened to me. I even prayed to keep my faith. kept asking my god not to let me go. was asking other christians, pastors, deacons, whoever I could find to help me keep believing but I couldn't ignore reality. it took a couple years before I realized I didn't believe anymore. If god really knows me, he knows how my mind works. the bible wasn't enough. there are horrible things in life but also wonderful things. so to believe that god loves us and ignore the horrible things just don't add up. I'm not mad at god. I don't believe one exist. if one does its indifferent to life. it doesn't favor either side.

It's funny you should say that. I once heard an add on Christian radio that went: 'if you like this (secular artist), then you'll like (Christian artist).' The band they paired with REM was Third Day. And I thought 'Sorry but I've been listening to REM since Murmur, and Third Day's not even in the same arena. The Christian equivalent of REM is without a doubt Jars of Clay.'
