The Manics sighned with Columbia Records in 1992 and they are still together in 2024. Show me another relationship in the music business like that, with both parties respectping the hell each other. Thanks to that support the Manics were able to become the All Time Rock Legends that they are. The Brits had Blur and Oasis, but the Manics have all the bluster and power of Oasis combines with the intelligence, brilliant songwriting and subtedly of Blur. And they are Welsh!!!

I took Manic Street Preachers for granted in 90s but I now realise what a quality band they are! These songs stand up its astounding!!!! Strong,complex pop with integrity, authenticity and soul.

Good comment! I've been around since they were taking off in the early 90s, and they've never lost their creative edge or consistency between the many albums they've released. Also, they've never taken a long "hiatus". Greatest band in the past 30yrs...the only acts that can compete are Texas and Sophie Ellis Bextor.

Not quite. Hes not saying “nothing is really important” more so just pointing out and exposing the flaws of our current economic system and culture in the modern world. People are more disconnected unhappy and unfulfilled than ever before. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need, because were unhappy with ourselves, why? Because we don’t have the things advertising tells us we should have or look the way advertisers say we should look (through models). This is what the song is talking about when he says “Itemize loathing and feed yourself smiles”. People buy things because they’re unhappy but it never fulfills you.
