We're quickly introduced to the concept of parallel universes pretty early on and I think that was pretty deliberate. I guess you summed up what happened in each episode, but you left out things that had emotional resonance. The thing that makes Rick and Morty special is not the Sci-Fi or the pop culture references. It's the way the characters are changed by what happens. Rick intending to sacrifice himself for Morty in 2x01 is huge, as is Rick trying to commit suicide in 2x03. Why leave those out?
