Sephiroth only lost to cloud because the over rated good guy winning over bad guy thing has always taken its stand in almost every anime/tv show/movie. Sephiroth is realistically always going to excel as a better swordsman then cloud or zack or anyone else. Also Sephiroth held back up until his music kicked in, if Angeal didnt stop them, ginger boy would of got his ass handed to him.

But by that argument, a person has no right to comment on any book,film,game,story or anything creative because it's not real. You'd be stuck with nonfiction( and even nonfiction incorporates some elements of fiction- especially in memoirs, where writers need to fill in blanks of their memory with filler)

Yes, Freud talked about that too, but he was more focused on human sexuality and ways it peeped out from our lives. Hence, why I joked about it. You got three guys fixated on their 'swords'. Also, neither trait (Id, Ego, Superego) is as exclusive to one character as you suggest. For instance, Angeal and Sephiroth are as emotional (Id) as Genesis is - they both mentally breakdown when they learn of their origins (Angeal wants Zack to kill him because he's a 'monster' and Sephiroth wants to take over the world due to mommy issues). Freud aside, I think SquareEnix wasn't just thinking about the Rule of Three. I think they were thinking about the Holy Trinity, especially when each other their names carries a religious-based named: Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth.

Crisis Core was an amazing game. It was really cool to meet Zack and to see Sephiroth back when he was still one of the good guys. You see more than one side of him, he's a mentor and a friend, he has a personality and a sense of humor. You also come to understand that the Final Fantasy VII universe was a lot bigger than him and Cloud, that there is room for more stories, more heroes, and more villains than the two in the first game. Just fantastic.

Absolutely. Sephiroth is put on the back foot briefly at the start of the dual (possibly because Genesis' strength surprised him), but from 2:03, when he loses his cool, he totally regains the momentum. Genesis struggles in the air and by the time they both land on the ground, Sephiroth's blows are literally throwing Angel around (see 3:21 - and that's not even a proper blow from Sephiroth, just a repulsive block). He has to muster all his strength to hold Sephiroth back at 3.30, and Sephiroth doesn't even really seem to be pushing all that hard. There's no way Genesis could win this dual.

Why is Sephiroth considered so cool, hes got an OK look, uses the most generic kind of sword (Katana's tend to be overused) Has a badass song I'll admit. but overall. . .he's got a fairly bleh story "Omg I'm a clone. Made to be the best but I found out they betrayed my mom so I'll destroy the world" Vincent's background was better. He had a few "decent" scenes. but they never made it lok like he was trying so in the end they came out as "on look Sephiroth is doing his things again" Overall he's just boring and until lthis scene all he ever did was burn a village and walk through fire to be all "cool"

It has less to do with Sephiroth himself, and more to do with the atmosphere around him. You'll notice there's a suspicious lack of that atmosphere in the rest of the expanded universe. Perhaps you haven't played the original game, so I'll fill you in, since he did a lot more than just burn down a village. For the first six hours of the game all you hear about the guy is whispers -- you know he's really important, but you don't know if he's good or bad or anything. The first time he's directly referred to is one of the most iconic scenes of the game. And no, it's not Nibelheim burning. Your whole party's been arrested and you're awaiting execution, and in the middle of the night you wake up. Your door has been very deliberately opened and yet every single guard that could have opposed you has been mangled beyond belief with the talking dog thing in your party seriously on edge, the creepy headless alien appears to have busted out of its cell from the inside, and you follow the trail of blood and organs up a path to the office of the guy that up until that point had been THE main antagonist of the game and the person you thought was going to be the endgame boss -- and he's dead and this "Sephiroth" has killed him. At first your party even thinks he's a good guy, until Cloud informs them he's a threat. Then there's the Nibelheim flashback, but again it isn't the burning of the village that made him cool. It was the fact that you really see quite little of him in action, and again the game only gives mention in occasional snippets of dialogue -- quotes like "He's far stronger in reality than any story you might have heard". And it sounds like hot air until you see the monster you've been running from, again, a major obstacle your party had to get past, slaughtered and impaled on a tree like a giant "SEPHIROTH WAZ HERE" sign. The rest of the game follows suit like this for some time -- you never really see him directly, only the aftermath. You show up, a place gets littered with bodies the second you turn away, and all anyone can say is "hey, I saw a guy do this but he left now". You only directly confront him twice before the final battle -- the first time he kills a major character, and the second he lands the protagonist in a goddamn coma. When the game finally did let us see the guy leaving bodies and wreckage everywhere, it happened so infrequently that you knew shit was about to go down. It isn't how much we see of Sephiroth being cool -- it's how little we see of him, and how good of a job the game did making those small glimpses feel important and ominous. And that's just plain old fashioned good writing. Sephiroth could have been a talking bear that wielded a squeaky mallet, but the game would have done a good enough job building up the atmosphere around him to where it wouldn't really matter. THAT is how to properly hype a villain. You fucking write him like a villain. None of this promo, fanboy "LOOK HE'S STANDING IN THE FIRE AGAIN CHECK OUT HOW BADASS HE IS" bullshit.

I suppose overall I just viewed him as a boring character because people just scream about his badassness cause of a few snippet scenes and his look. Overpopular character is overpopular. But yeah looking back on it. .. i was too young to appreciate the subtle hints they gave. So after all that slaughter, that talking and that guessing, you realize he wasn't even really there :-D That's quite mind-blowing, isn't it? And that's exactly how you build a villain. it's like Voldemort, after 4 books you know nothing about him except his strength, his evilness and that everyone shit themselves just just by hearing his name. when you finally see him you think "how the hell am i supposed to deal with this guy?". In my opinion ff7 is the best game ever made, and that guy is probably the real reason behind it.

In the case of the movie (I'm assuming you mean Advent Children?), that was deliberate. If you watch closely, he never breathes, either. The entire point was that he had become something...other, by that point. That there was no traces of humanity left, basically "Cthulhu-in-human-form-and-he-wants-you-dead."

Angeal is more than likely the oldest because his mother, Gillian, was injected with Jenova cells (not him directly) and then some of Gillian's cells were taken and injected into Genesis' mother. It is assumed this occured after conception of them both, respectively, which is why it is suggested that Angeal is older than Genesis, but both are older than Sephiroth.

Sephiroth always toys and plays with his opponents before quickly overwhelming them, and not even going to his full potential. This fight, and the fight between Cloud and Sephiroth in Advent Children Complete are both prime examples. The only time he loses control and attacks without holding back, is when he went insane at the Nibelheim Reactor. And look how badly he crushed Zack (Crisis Core game, Last Order movie.)

actually his and Zack's memories just got jumbled up in his head, never forgetting he was Cloud Strife. At the end of it all, even when he remembered his best friend, he was far too broken to do anything about it. I don't think that its not that he didn't want anyone to know Zack. Even in AC, he still was, although he was recovering. Eventually, when everything evens out, I'm surehe will want the world to remember the forgotten hero that is Zack. ^^

I do agree that they added a nice dimension to the story. I doubt the writers had any more ideas for Zack's story, which is why they added The other two. But like Gent said, I never said they were bad characters; they just never existed in the true timeline... THAT is where my issue lies.
